I see some great artists/bands listed here, and I love pretty much all of them. So, besides The Beatles, The Stones, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and my love for the wonderfully hated prog rock...my favorite artist would be Peter Hammill. I fell in love with his music back in 1989 when I first started working for a small ma & pa record store. They had a demo of Peter's "Out of Water" album and from the first moment I heard it my life has never been the same. I believe I shared a video of his before, but here's a sample of his music:

Dead Kennedys are number one, but The Replacements are in close second.

Not sure how I missed this thread before, but if I had to pick one it would have to be the Pixies, along with Frank Black's solo stuff. His solo debut and the Pixies' Trompe le Monde changed my life but there's not a weak entry in their catalog. I also have a soft spot for those 80s metal bands and some punk. AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, that kind of stuff.
This song is just epic. Beautiful and sad. A song for driving down a desert road under the stars.
And gotta say, never listened to The Crucified but wow, not bad at all, Mr. A. To that, I answer with The Hickoids.
Cowpunk band from Austin, Texas. They also do a mashup that combines the William Tell Overture and the theme from Bonanza as well as a cover of the Eagles' Take it Easy in the same style that is both hilarious and ten times better than the original. They do some awesome original stuff, too.

Well, I dig a wide range of stuff, all the way from mid '60s garage instrumentals to Miles Davis to Link Wray to Tangerine Dream to the Fifth Dimension to Pink Floyd to The Cramps, but as far as one band which I revere above all others?
That's easy. The Grateful Friggin' Dead.
That is all.

I will still defend Radiohead (especially after TKOL) after the past years I have spent enjoying their music. Still, there are several other artists mentioned on here, like Maiden or Pixies. But, I am going to go for Radiohead.
