Definitely sad, he was a legend in Twins territory, even to people like me who weren't even born yet when he retired. I wish the Twins could get their act together, though I will praise them for breaking a nine game losing streak against Seattle last night by a score of 2-1. Woo! But the team is such a wreck with injuries that my buddies and I have started referring to all the replacement players simply as "Rochester Jim" after the team's AAA affiliate. Doesn't matter what their real name is. If they weren't on the roster at the start of the season, they are officially Rochester Jim to us. What a fan will do to add some zest to a lousy season.

Vin Mazzaro is my new hero, by the way. If you're gonna suck, at least suck as badly as you possibly can.
Although, really, that was as much the manager's fault. Why keep a struggling pitcher in that long without even warming up a reliever?

And the Royals were rained out the day before, so the whole pitching staff was rested.

Jake Peavey: dare I hope that tonight foreshadows things to come? Or is some other random tendon just waiting for the perfect moment to go flying off in ways no pitcher has ever experienced before?

I've just put Peavey in my fantasy team so cue his good form going out the window

I have a suspicion that Peavey's going to be fine...but if the offense is as outrageously dominant (cough) as they were tonight.......ugh.

Indians win again to improve to 30-15 on the season. I'm VERY surprised that they chose to go ahead with the game, especially after funnel clouds were reported in the Cleveland area last night.

You know what, White Sox? I needed some good news today when I landed and the captain told me I could turn on my cell phone. I wanted to see a win. But what did I see? I saw Danks move to 0-8 after a total blowout that even a few homers from the homers couldn't make go down easier.
So you know what, you lame-ass whiners (see Danks bitching about Bautista today)? I'm done being hopeful. I'll keep going to your goddam park and paying for your goddam tickets because my son still loves this goddam game. And I still love being at a game. But you seem determined to play below your supposed talent level. (I mean...Rios? Why did we like you again? And did Dunn just decide that he likes not playing defense, so he might enjoy not playing offense as well?)
I don't get it.

Dear White Sox,
Thank you for beating Boston.

I have nothing to say. I'm just a Twins fan sitting in a corner, rocking back and forth while quietly mumbling to myself.

The Rockies were 17-8 in April. The Rockies were 8-21 in May.

I know. At least the season's not a total loss, right? Heh. Boooooooooooooo Heh heh. And now Thome? This is obviously the good lord's punishment on Minnesota for Al Franken. So, Adam Dunn. I'd say it's a bad sign when your DH has the worst avg in the lineup. I suppose it really does get into their heads if they come from the NL and suddenly have to play DH. You'd think the sheer confidence of being a bad-ass hitter for most of your career would overcome a little time resting on the bench. So now Ozzie's letting him play some 1B. Konerko's getting older, anyway. Now if only Beckham could start hitting, too. I just hope they hit a stride for the next two months, which is when I'll probably go to the most games.
