There's a mountain resort town somewhere where people are being killed by monsters from possessed totem poles. The ranger who protects the town wants to shut down the hiking trails where the killings are happening, but runs into resistance from a local hotel manager. As the dead accumulate, a history of demonic force in the area coming from the opened Native Amrican "gate to Hell" becomes apparent and the ranger and his friends have to find a way to close it...
I've found it. The worst movie ever made. Manos: The Hands of Fate, Plan 9 From Outer Space, and the filmography of Coleman Francis suddenly seem well crafted works by master filmmakers.
Here people are attacked by stop-motion animated monsters and become clay when they get killed in miniature. Continuity apparently was secondary to the story as wounds on people change and disappear completely between scenes (along with the ranger's moustache at one point, then it's back). A mummy attacks a woman from a 19th century grave. An item that could be the key to saving everyone is in a small box next to a sex toy! And then there's this bit (Warning: contains some gore, SPOILERS, and the erosion of your sanity).
The story unravels bit by bit as you lose track of what's going on. The aforementioned films had a linear left-to-right story that made some sort of sense. Even Troll 2 follows this simple idea. This film has some scenes that appear to be out of order near the beginning. The version I saw was the "Special Collector's Edition" DVD so these problems were apparently not an issue to be corrected by the filmmakers.
People apparently like this film though. They like the Z-movie charm. If you want to watch this film you may have to remind yourself that this is just a movie and you are not in fact hallucinating it all.
I wanted to put this in the Horror Movies Thread, but it was just too bad to not point out. If not for the gore, violence, language, and nudity it would be perfect for Rifftrax.
