I have some mixed feelings about today's announcement that City of Heroes would be gravitating towards the F2P market sometime within the next year.
On the other hand, looking over what those changes will bring...well, I think that between the Veteran rewards I've gotten from playing over the last four/five years and the things I've unlocked on my own, I don't think I'll actually wind up being locked out of much if I stop paying. And if I keep up paying for it as normal, I'll actually be getting *more* stuff.
I really hope that this is a good F2P transition, like Lord of the Rings Online. And not a *horrible*, *AWFUL* transition like Champions Online had.

I remember playing this on a friend's computer. I made "Mirror Spock". Spock with a Goatee who was a blaster and a teleporter. Of course, the teleportation hadn't kicked in by the time I stopped playing, but it was still fun.
Free to play, eh? Well, if my internet connection wasn't such sh*t, I'd probably pick it up.

I've heard good things about CoH in the past, and this might get me to actually start playing it.

CoH is only MMO that I've played that's actively kept my attention. I openly confess that I'm a "casual" gamer instead of a "hardcore" gamer, and CoH caters to that. I think in its entire history, there's only been a couple of task forces/raids/trials/thingies/whatevers that've been in the double digits, and between all the new powers we've gotten over the years and better understanding of how team work works, even those have become fairly easy. It's a game that's more about the storytelling than the gaming, and I like that. Honestly, I'd recommend trying it even if your connection is thusly. Until a few months ago I was still using dial-up (and not even what I'd call *Good* dial-up), and I was able to play it relatively well. (I almost exclusively solo-played, and had my graphics set all the way down to the bottom, but it was still a really enjoyable experience.)
