I don't post in here much, because music is not my passion. I do, however, love Evanescence. Especially the majority of the songs on Fallen. Recently, MJ did his Arts and Entertainment thread in CFM. I partook in it, and during my research into my own list I discovered something that took me by surprise, Evanescence's third album is due out later this year.Honestly, I had long since assumed the band was dead, since their last album was in 2006, so I hadn't looked out for any news on a new album in quite some time. No surprise that the band was revolving around Amy Lee's personal life, since her vocals are most likely what the group is known for, and they most likely would be nothing without her. Glad to hear that she's finally decided bring it back from the dead. The third album is simply titled "Evanescence" and is due out October 4th. While I anticipate Ben Moody's influence will still be missed, I'm hoping for a more solid album than the Open Door, which had a few good songs, but not many that were memorable.

Here's a first listen from MTV NewsI dunno, sounds like the same old, same old. I really loved Fallen - and while everything seemed in place on Open Door -it sounded like Evanescence- it wasn't completely clicking with Moody gone. To be fair, I can't judge by a a few seconds of music - maybe it'll sound better when I hear the whole thing (and what the other tracks sound like)

It comes out tomorrow, and I'm pumped (Horrible Bosses comes out too, so I'm super amped for the 11th).
Just pipped in to note that there's going to be a delux edition of the album out, too. Apperantly it carries four bonus songs and a DVD. I know what I'm getting!

Picked mine up. First impression? Shiiiiiiiiny.
Be warned that the delux version is in a cardboard sleeve case. I was really hoping it wouldn't be, because my Open Door case is torn to poopie. The pockets holding the discs are airtight, making them difficult to get out. The CD pocket even has a booklet crammed in there too. That was a pain in the ass.
Shot of the band on the inside is gorgeous, though. Amy is looking stunning.
Only heard the first three songs. So far they're better than most of the songs on the Open Door (loved What You Want). I need to listen to the album more thouroughly though.

One add on: If you're wondering if the bonus tracks are worth the extra cost, they're better than half the songs on the regular release.
Secret Door, in particular, is stellar. I'd have to listen the the whole thing again, but that might be my favorite song on the disc.

Read one review that said the bonus songs were outstanding.
Have you heard Ben's new band, "We Are the Fallen"? Looks like he went and got himself an Amy sound-a-like (though Amy's better)

As soon as I heard of We Are the Fallen (which was around the same time I first read about the new E album) I rushed out to check out if they were any good. I really dug them. Yes, they're similar to Evanescence, but their tone is more their own. Amy's voice has an aura of tragic to it, while Carly's is a bit harsher and angrier. The way I look at it, Amy's the voice of an angel, Carly's the voice of a devil. It took me a few songs to get used to her, but I ultimately was sold on the band, so I bought their CD.
I find St. John, Through Hell, Tear the World Down, and Sleep Well My Angel all to be outstanding songs.
I also picked up Ben Moody's solo CD. Not bad, but he's a bit monotonous by himself.

Took a look at the DVD that came with it. The behind the scenes is typical self promotion stuff. "We're so great! The experience has been amazing!" Yadda yadda yadda. The making of the What You Want music video was pretty cool, and the actual video itself is one of E's better music videos (only have seen Going Under and Bring Me to Life). There's also a section where Amy gives a small blurb on the majority of the songs. There's not a lot here, but seeing how exhaustively boring the behind the scenes featurettes on the Anywhere But Home DVD were, these were just satisfying enough.
Gave the disc a final listen before I retired it for a while. Gave songs that stood out a second and third listen to see which ones I liked. There was one thing about the album that was kind of bugging me but wasn't able realize what it was, and I finally figured it out. Evanescence was established as a gothic metal band in their previous releases, and here, while there are a few songs that stick to their roots), they've seemed to have made the transition to regular metal. Kind of disappointing, but Fallen was so unique that to try and replicate it over and over again could be a set up for failure. So if this is the future of Evanescence, I'm OK with it.
My ultimate judgement: a massive improvement over the Open Door, but not nearly as memorable as Fallen. But I'm glad I bought it and I'll buy the next one. Evanescence seems to have finally found an identity post-Moody, but while I mau still be reaching for Fallen everytime I wnt to hear E, the songs featured here definately have enough beat for me to come back.
Album top 5: 1. Secret Door (Deluxe only) 2. What You Want 3. Lost in Paradise 4. Disappear (Deluxe only) 5. Say You Will (Deluxe only) Honorable mention (because it was so close to making it): The Change
Evanescence top 15 (as of now): 1. Going Under (Fallen) 2. Bring Me to Life (Fallen) 3. My Last Breath (Fallen) 4. My Immortal (Origin, Fallen) 5. Secret Door (Evanescence deluxe edition) 6. Torniquet (Fallen) 7. What You Want (Evanescence) 8. Haunted (Fallen) 9. Missing (Anywhere But Home bonus track) 10. Lost in Paradise (Evanescence) 11. Imaginary (Origin, Fallen) 12. Even in Death (Origin) 13. Cloud Nine (The Open Door) 14. All That I'm Living For (The Open Door) 15. Disappear (Evanescence deluxe edition)

It looks like I may have to buy that third album. I also have the first two CD's and agree that The Open Door album wasn't as good. The only song that stood out for me was All That I'm Living For. For me, the weakness of that album was the chorus'. Every song seemed to slow down when the chorus started, like they were trying to force you to listen to the lyrics. Instead, I kept thinking "pick up the pace." CD Universe, here I come!
