I had recently discovered that Star Trek is available for viewing on Netflix via my Nintendo. I figure this is a good opportunity for me to catch up to this series that I have largely never watched. The only episodes I've ever watched in full are "Amok Time" and "Space Seed" which I borrowed from the library.
Before I delve into this series, though, could somebody warn me as to which episode is the worst just so that I'm prepared when it comes up?

The Way to Eden is the worst, imo.
I recently bought the remastered editions on Blu-ray and have begun a rewatching marathon myself. Still a great show.

The Way to Eden is the worst, imo. Agreed. Spock's Brain is kinda lame too.

I would say the worst, most unwatchable ep is "Is There No Truth In Beauty?"
"Spock's Brain" is riff-tastic in the best MST3K sense. Ditto "The Way To Eden," which also offers a few hot hippy chicks to distract the eye.
But "Is There No Truth In Beauty?" Ugggggh. Ugggggh. You have been duly warned.

Most of the worst are Season Three. The very best, mostly Season 1. Most people also hate "Turnabout Intruder", but I say it's Shat at his campiest.

Yeah, Shat was a lot of fun in "Turnabout Intruder."

Yeah, Shat was a lot of fun in "Turnabout Intruder." I wish I remembered which one that was.

Yeah, Shat was a lot of fun in "Turnabout Intruder." I wish I remembered which one that was. Based on a video review I watched, it's about Kirk switching bodies with an insane woman who ends up commanding the Enterprise with an iron fist. Apparently, that will be the last episode I will watch while watching this show. Well, I've started and I've gotten through "The Cage" and "Man Trap". Quite frankly, they're nothing too spectacular right now, but they're also certainly no "Outrageous Okana". I'm hoping "City on the Edge of Forever" and "Conscience of the King" are everything that they are said to be.

My favorites:
City on the Edge of Forever Mirror Mirror Balance of Terror This Side of Paradise The Doomsday Machine
Out of the 79 eps, you have maybe a dozen or so really good ones.
My least favorites: All the "gladiator" eps. Also "Squire of Gothos," "The Apple," etc.

My faves:
"City on the Edge of Forever" "Devil in the Dark" "Mirror Mirror" "This Side of Paradise"
"I Mudd" and "The Trouble with Tribbles" are good for laughs. (Funny on purpose, I mean.)
The only third season ep that's any good is "Whom Gods Destroy." Not up to the eps from the early years but campy fun nonetheless.

Question: are the episodes that I'm watching on Netflix the "special edits" that I've heard tell about?

Question: are the episodes that I'm watching on Netflix the "special edits" that I've heard tell about? You would be able to tell straight away if they were. If the Enterprise looks like a toy matted into a background, it's the original version. If it looks like very phony CGI, it's the remastered special edition versions that were made a few years ago.

They're OK. The updated effects kind of suck the campy charm out of the show though.

My least favorites: All the "gladiator" eps. Also "Squire of Gothos," "The Apple," etc. I quite enjoy The Squire of Gothos, I thought William Campbell was hilarious in that one. The updated effects kind of suck the campy charm out of the show though. The tradeoff is that you get much cleaner picture in the live action scenes. On the Blu-Ray edition, you can actually choose whether you want to see the old or new effects.
