Right now it looks like the storm will skirt the NC coast then head up to New England. A little jog to the west and I'm smashed.
Anyone else threatened by this thing? I'm thinking about packing up my most precious possessions ... my MST collection. Cats can fend for themselves.

I'm right up the coast from you. Some guy on the radio was saying we could get a triple threat this week. Earthquake, hurricane, tornado. Yay!

I live in RI. The current tracking says we're right in the bulls eye. Luckily where as far away from the coast as you can get in RI and on high ground by local standards. I'll be fighting to keep my cellar from flooding even if its not a direct hit. My son's looking forward to it. We haven't had a direct hit by a hurricane since the 50's.

It has jogged to the west. We are forecast to receive over fifteen inches of rain and 100 mph winds.
Irene is a monster and looks like a storm of historic proportions. Good luck to everyone up the coastline.

I think NY is just gonna get some seriously heavy rain and wind.
I expect to see some trees down within the next few days.

The current forecast literally takes it over my house. I am really nervous about this one.

Sky, are you evacuating, or is evacuation voluntary?

Sky, are you evacuating, or is evacuation voluntary? Evacuation might become mandatory but no one really tries to make you leave. I plan to stay home and ride it out. But there will be no help if we have an emergency. My wife's cousin's boyfriend went outside during one of the Florida hurricanes a few years ago, was hit by flying debris, and died. He lay dead in the yard for hours. No emergency services during the thick of the storm.

Yeah, I saw a program on the National Geographic Channel that was all eyewitness video of Katrina back in '05. That was some scary sh$t and I hope Irene isn't as bad.

You realize that the logic of this post is questionable, right? 1) If I stay, there will be no emergency service. 2) I have a personal connection to someone who died because of the lack of emergency service. Therefore: 3) I am staying IN SPITE of direct experience that advises the contrary. heh...Why don't you send me your collection for safe keeping. I'll make sure your next of kin get it.

Most all my posts defy logic. Right now I'm planning to float on my collection.

The local news is starting to freak me out... they're talking about massive flooding and Sh*t like that. I'm debating on getting some kind of raft, though if I actually do that I'm gonna dig up my old pirate outfit as well.
If you see a pirate floating around NY It's me.

Sky, take care of yourself (and that collection, which we all love!--oh, and you're okay, too ) You can't save your house by staying in it, and better to leave sooner than to fight evacuation traffic later.
