Criterion Godzilla set purchased and put away for Christmas, currently watching and enjoying my Ultra Q and Ultraman sets (the first of dozens of upcoming Ultra sets), a small company called SRS is acquiring micro-budget kaiju indies for US distribution... I am a very happy fan right now.
Rumor has it that Gamera may have a new hone video licensor, too.

The Gamera distributor is apparently Arrow. I don't have any discs from them, but apparently they do good work. They just released a Ringu set that apparently is pretty excelent. But I'm not exactly a Ringu fan so I had no incentive to pick it up for that high price tag.
I'm enjoying Ultra Q. Haven't seen it before, but it's an interesting little piece of toku TV. Unfortunately Mill Creek's digital service, Spree, is a bit cruddy so I can't watch it while I'm at lunch at work.

^ Arrow is a terrific company. I'd be very happy for any kaiju release from them.

It's a better release date, so I hope for the best. I'm assuming it's the last one of these Hollywood Godzilla movies, or at least the last in this cycle so I'm less concerned about weather the movie performs well financially. I disliked the previous one, so the only thing I hope for is that the movie is good.
Honestly, as a kaiju fan it's only one sliver of the stuff I'm anticipating. Next year we'll probably be getting upwards of a dozen Ultraman series on Blu-ray - and American Ultraman comic books from Marvel - aaaaaand we've got the Shin Ultraman movie coming in 2021. On top of that there will be the Arrow Gamera Blu-ray set, and since Gamera's rights holders are far less persnickety with which versions can be included I think we are looking at a set that will have far less limitations then Criterion's Godzilla set.

It's been pretty much a common assumption that Godzilla vs. Kong would go all Batman v Superman on us and have the two beasts team up to fight a common enemy at the end. We can now confirm it's true, thanks to toy leaks. And that big bad is... Mechagodzilla. I was kind of hoping it wasn't going to be Mechagodzilla, because it's a weird thing to throw into a lizard vs. monkey movie out of the blue, but it looks like it's going to happen. But MechaG is Toho's most popular kaiju that the MonsterVerse hasn't used yet, so it was probably bound to happen. We don't know the full context, but I'm eager to hear more details as it develops.

That was teased in the last film (end credits?), and I was so hoping it would happen. To see him rendered in a big-budget Hollywood flick. Yeah, I'm ecstatic over the news!!

I think I read somewhere that it's mentioned in he was present on Skull Island in one of the press clippings from the end credits. I don't think I looked at them too closely, but I may have to pause and read them. For what it's worth, Mechagodzilla already had a big budget interpretation in Ready Player One and it wasn't half bad. This new design looks like an entirely different direction though. His body is somewhat skeletal and almost serpent like, and his forearms look kind of like he's designed to be able to walk on all fours if he needs too. They kind of remind me of Rumble from the original 80's Transformers cartoon. There is also some possible extra spoilers from these toys that I find interesting, but it's kind of being ignored over the villain reveal. Kong is seen wearing some sort of ancient armor and wielding a mace. I think this is kind of fascinating if they're exploring that he has some sort of civilization that goes beyond just being a giant gorilla. That kind of has me excited.
Edit: Upon closer inspection I think I mis-saw that toy. I think I saw the segmentation of the upper arm and mistook it for a shoulder guard, and the scratches on Kong's torso look like a strap. Still, I would have liked to have seen this.
Godzilla is seen sporting some sort of mechinized battle armor, ala Dino-Riders. I'm not sure what to make of this yet. Is it an attempt at controlling Godzilla? Did Monarch create it to help him fight Mechagodzilla? How the hell do you keep Godzilla still long enough to put THAT on him? There are rumors of reshoots to this movie, which could mean a lot of this is getting revamped or cut. I just hope this isn't a Justice League situation, where Warner is so panicked at the muted response to the last film that they wind up self sabotaging their own movie.
