Minorly Godzilla related, but not fully. I've been getting my Zilla geek on and been burning through my DVDs, and when I get into my Japanese monster movies I get into them heavey, so I looked into seeking out Ishiro Honda's science fiction flicks that have eluded me over the years. Something I do on occasion, just in case I get lucky. I actually did this time and I found someone offering a copy of the original Japanese version of Half Human with subtitles, so naturally I said "MINE!" and clicked buy. The same spot is offering Human Vapor and Gorath, so I'm going to pick those up as well.
So hopefully by next week I'll have those under my belt. That just leaves those rare dramas he directed, but according to Keith Aiken those aren't even on DVD in Japan, so finding them in the States is going to be hell.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa! "Half Human"... subtitled!? I can PM you a link if you wish. It's "unofficial" though.

Got your link -- thanks! Even in Japan, any version of "Half-Human" would be unofficial. Even the place I usually get my "unofficial" DVDs doesn't have it listed.

Yeah the strict ban on the movie blows. I hear that it's actually really good. The negative stereotype is slways a bad thing, but we don't ban the Jazz Singer because of blackface. I agree with Leonard Maltin on films like these, it's important they're preserved and understood by generations instead of sweeping them under the rug and pretending they didn't happen.

Just watched King of the Monsters on Criterion's Blu Ray. A remastered HD version of Gojira in incredible, but also seemed (at least to me) to be somewhat inevitable. I had the feeling that it was an important film and someone would do it eventually.
But seeing this American version looking so good is just mind blowing!

TCM will have a Japanese sci-fi/fantasy/horror marathon on June 15 with the US television premier of Gojira!

I take it Godzilla will be the only subtitled one? Shame. Good to see Mothre getting some TV love, though.
Is "Hausu" House? I haven't seen that one. I should record it.

Looks like TCM is getting its Mothra movies mixed up. The plot describes "Godzilla vs. Mothra", not "Mothra".
And "House" is a trip and a half! Definitely worth recording and watching with drunk friends.

In Atlanta, on Sat April 28th, a local group called the "Silver Scream Spook Show" is showing a 35mm print of Godzilla vs. Megalon twice (an afternoon showing and an evening showing). There's no riffing (unless someone in the audience yells out something) and not sure if it'll be in the original Japanese with subtitles or dubbed into English (if so, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be the dreadful Sandy Frank dub job). www.silverscreamspookshow.com

I believe it was an international dub.

There's only one dub of Megalon, and Sandy Frank wasn't responsible. I believe it was an international dub. Yep, that's right. It was produced by a group in Hong Kong (apparently called "Axis Productions", and definitely founded by Ted Thomas, who dubs the toga-wearing Robert Dunham). They're much more "famous" for dubbing an unprecedented number of kung fu flicks from the era. Seriously - just listen to the dubbed version of almost any Shaw Brothers film and you'll hear these same voices. Incidentally, they also dubbed the versions of GAMERA VS. BARUGON and GAMERA VS. GAOS that were featured on MST3K. Mr. Thomas is heard frequently in the latter film but is nowhere to be seen (heard?) in BARUGON.

While no linkable announcement has been made, a insider at Echo Bridge claims they're aiming for November/December to release a DVD and Blu-Ray of Godzilla vs. Biollante! He also gave a glimpse of the possible cover art.If Megalon meets its date this year, Godzilla 1985 will be the sole non-released film in the Godzilla series. Figures, since it's my favorite.

In related kaiju-on-DVD news... www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=9134Looking forward to it. I love Daimajin, and I traded in my old DVD set when Mill Creek announced they got the license.
