I saw that yesterday. Absolutely fabulous. Honestly, as I'm more of a fan of the Ishiro Honda films I'm more interested in whether Mill Creek plans to license Mothra, H-Man, and Battle in Outer Space from Sony. They've already licensed Mothra and it's part of a recently released four pack with Giant Claw, 20 Million Miles to Earth, and It Came From Beneath the Sea. The film is English only.

One thing I wonder is if SyFy still has the TV rights for some of the older Godzilla movies. I know as we get closer to the film, back in the 90's we would start seeing Godzilla movie marathons on TV. I remember SciFi Channel used to have some really nice looking widescreen prints of some of the older Godzilla movies from the 60's and 70's.
Of course with the wide availability of many of these movies on DVD, I don't even know if it'd be worth their time to play them, if they had the rights still.

Some hearsay blu-ray news, so treat this with a grain of salt. I was told Media Blasters annoinced on Facebook that they've set a release date for Godzilla vs' Megalon for July 22nd on blu-ray (hey! At least it's not May 6th!). The release will be barebones since they were unable to work a deal out with Toho (and I imagine they didn't want to miss the hype train of the new Godzilla movie).
However I checked their Facebook page and found no such announcement. I'm not sure where he heard it from, but I'm looking for more concrete proof.
What kind of works in this rumors favor is the knowledge that a new Destroy All Monsters blu-ray is in the works. And unlike the walmart.com date listed for DAM, July 22nd actually falls on a Tuesday. I find it likely they'd want to release them together, so there might be something to this.
So if true that's another feature to scratch off the list.

Update on the above: I was just provided with this photo, so it seems more legit... Also confirms what I've believed for a while...Toho are dicks. If they can't even approve a simple audio commentary then any chance of seeing a legit release of the MST version of Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster is kaput. But it does give hope. Assuming Kraken and Sony are saving their remaining titles for home media tie-in for the new movie, by the end of the year the sole blu-ray holdouts for the Godzilla series with be Godzilla 1985 and the Classic Media titles (and the only English only release will be King Kong vs. Godzilla hopefully). Shame since Classic Media holds some of the best (Godzilla vs. Mothra would look gorgeous on blu-ray) and G85 is a personal favorite.

I wonder what brought on the shift from Toho regarding special features. I'm sure all of Classic Media's special features didn't come from Toho.

I have absolutely no idea. From what I heard the original dispute over Destroy All Monsters was a couple of photos. Photos. Then it escelated into searching the entire disc for aspects they didn't approve of.
From what I'm told, Toho doesn't want the US editions to be preferable options to the Japanese discs, to prevent people from Japan from importing from another region. The idea is kind of silly when they themselves could make their versions more tempting with just the idea of better HD transfers alone, but I guess they don't wish to because they're genre movies to a specific audience that will buy them anyway.
Deep down though I believe maybe Media Blasters just pissed them off and they're punishing them. Toho left Criterion alone when they did their Godzilla release, which undoubtedly has the best presentation of the original film on any region in addition to brand new features they created themselves. I'm not sure that if the Classic Media discs would today would be treated as badly as Media Blasters, but I'm just considering myself lucky we got them.
Though I'm bummed I might never hear that Megalon commentary. That's one I was genuinely interested in hearing.

If I didn't just shell out $250 at the doctor's office, I'd probably be more tempted to. But as it stands my priority is getting my savings account back into shape.
