The nominees are as follows: •Beastie Boys •The Cure •Donovan •Eric B. & Rakim •Guns 'N Roses •Heart •Joan Jett and The Blackhearts •Freddie King •Laura Nyro •Red Hot Chili Peppers •Rufus with Chaka Khan •The Small Faces/The Faces •The Spinners •Donna Summer •War
Again, no Rush or ELO....lovely eh?
Anyway, if I had to pick my 5 to get in, It would be The Beastie Boys, Heart, Joan Jett, Guns and Roses, and The Faces.

My top three would be the Beasties, GnR, and RHCPs, rounded out by Donna Summer (the most #1 hits of the nominees) and the Spinners (can't get enough 70s soul).

And still no KISS, Rush or Deep Purple. What a joke. Agreed. Or nominations of Cheap Trick or Thin Lizzy or Blue Oyster Cult. It's the usual expected ignoring of progressive rock and heavy metal bands. It's become the Grammy Awards Hall of Fame. Why do they still call it The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame anyway? With some of the recent inductees and nominees it may do them some good to rename the place to The Pop Music Hall of Fame. That way they may gain back the respect so many of us have lost for that place. From the nominees list, I choose Heart, The Spinners...um...I don't really dislike any of the rest of the nominees, but none of the others stand out to me. I just noticed something about nominees from recent years. They tend to be 90% American bands. Why? My Hall of Fame would be 80%-90% non-American bands, but that's just me. ;D

For a while I've had a sneaky suspicion that the R&R Hall of Fame intentionally avoids the truly BIG names that clearly deserve to get in, at least in recent years. Some bands are going to remain famous without their input.
-EDIT-
Is it sneaky suspicion, or sneaking suspicion? I'm...I'm honestly not sure....
I'm going to do some grammar research. Keep talking about rock and roll while I'm gone, guys.

That way they may gain back the respect so many of us have lost for that place. I see the "Rock and Roll" name as including popular music in the rock era and acts whose music derives from the artists who created rock in the first place. Erik B and Rakim might not be rock like the usual excluded acts, but artists they listened to ultimately go back to the same rock and R&B artists.
