He built the Raiders into a great franchise then ruined them. Regardless, a NFL institution.

Wow, I thought he was too ornery to ever die. As a Raider fan I have long had mixed opinions about Big Al. Definitely an institution. I have a sneaky suspicion that Zombie Al Davis might still run the team. No disrespect intended. RIP Al. I don't know if he will be coaching in Heaven or Hell.

I'm shocked. Never been a Raiders fan, but Al was a great innovator and good for the game. RIP

Without Al, there would be no NFL. His challenges and vision pushed the league to where it is today.
As a fan of the Broncos, it's been fun to mock his recent vampire-ishness and institutional failures. Nevertheless, all football fans everywhere owe Davis a round of thanks.
