Depending on the break up.
I had one in particular in the past where Getting Jiggy With It would have fit perfectly.

One time I had a neighbor who came home drunk just after breaking up with his girlfriend and he played Bon Jovi's "You Give Love A Bad Name" at full volume for three hours. Yes. Three hours. We finally had to break into his house because he had passed out, and the song was on a loop. Guess he saw it coming.

"I Can't Decide" by Scissor Sisters.
It also works well for virtually any social interaction whatsoever.

Although breaking up has never been a part of my life; you must have a partner for that; the few times I liked a woman and things just didn't seem to work out, I played this...
Maybe just a tad bit too much bitterness? Primal scream therapy anyone?
Then sadness creeps in:

Played this after my last breakup. So, you had the experience of Jesus' second visit to Earth and sang his praises while he destroyed the world around you? That was some breakup! Yep, for those of you who didn't know, that is the context of the Hallelujah Chorus in Handel's Messiah.

this one's a weeper for me. also...
for the record, i like the stones but think they're super-overrated, and rod stewart i mostly just detest, but damn, these are two nice tunes.
and yes, these songs are old, and that's partly because i'm also old, but also because i learned pretty early on that after a breakup, the last thing your busted-up a$$ needs is to listen to maudlin music.
