I'm teaching English as a second language and looking for a good article on the red-state / blue-state phenomenon to use as a discussion topic with a foreign student. He's at an intermediate level, thus can converse in everyday English competently but needing to work on sounding natural. He also wants to work on the somewhat different English you find in newspapers and such, and is interested in this topic. I'm looking for something about two pages long and more analytical than argumentative. I give him the articles over a weekend before discussion, so it's fine if he needs to look up vocabulary and such. This is probably what I'll use if I find nothing better, but I have a week yet, and if anyone can point me to something more explanatory I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
