This riff from The Movie. "Just like we left it, WITH THE USA IN CHARGE!!!!!!" i actually read this as making fun of the tendency in those movies to always put the USA dead center in their establishing globe shots, i.e., the dumb nationalism is the doing of the movies, not the riffers. but i could be wrong. Yes, this was the spirit in which I always took the humor as well. When you think about it, the writers made tons of jokes based around racial/national/sexual stereotypes, but I always got the impression that they were not actually perpetuating the stereotypes, but were making fun of how ridiculous they were.

So much of 'Hobgoblins' to consider. It wasn't bad enough about the victory 'celebration' in the van, but then they had to add the sound effects!!
Runner-up as some have said, 'Catching Trouble,' with the narrator happily talking about Ross' exploits as if its a walk in the park.
Also, 'A date with your family.' That narrator saying, 'this is going to be a fun time...as long as noone acts out or expresses their own individualism!'

I like most of these sketches, especially Joey the Lemur... Y'know, I thought Joey The Lemur was one of the most unhinged, fsck3d up, where-the-hell-are-they-going-with-this bits they ever did, but I just couldn't look away. I loved it for the very reason that it was such a totally weirded-out wreck of a sketch. It took me a while to get into the SciFi Era New Mads bits, but once I got a load of the bit that parodies that scene in Beneath The Planet Of The Apes where the mutant humans are worshipping the atom bomb, I was totally into it. The sketches where Pearl has her own space program and is attempting to launch Professor Bobo totally iced it for me. Ohhh, man, that's one of my all-time faves. It starts out fairly funny, then becomes annoying, then even more annoying, then suddenly breaks through into hilarious. It's the endless repetition that gets me going, I think, kinda' like those two closing segments with repetitive false endings, at the end of The Beatniks and Teenage Crime Wave, and the way they ran that cheesy Peter Graves rap over and over at the end of It Conquered The World. Monty Python used to do that a lot, too -- take a gag that was funny enough the first time, and use it as a motif, doing repeated callbacks to it all through the episode until, at the end, it's so beat to death that it's even funnier than the first time they did it, i.e. "Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!"

If you listen closely you'll notice that Pearl's either watching the "days of our years" short or they decided to use the music from it, during the segment where she asks Crow to read to her.

The weepy song thing that's supposed to be Barbara Streisand or Bette Middler in the Rose or whatever it's supposed to be. Gah. Are you talking about that one bit during The Violent Years (I think it was) where Servo comes on in a dress and a big fluffy blonde wig, gets about five seconds into a song, and then breaks down in a hysterical weeping, sobbing fit? That seems like a bit where you have to have seen a certain movie or something in order to get it.

Well, I can honestly say that there's almost never been a host segment/sketch I didn't like, whether it was with Joel or Mike, but, still, there are a few that made me a bit uncomfortable as I watched. As far as the movies themselves -- well, maa-aan, there's more than a few moments when I was physically recoiling:
In Manos, there's the scene where Torgo is coming on to the guy's wife, touching her hair and all. Almost goes without saying, a universal cringe inducer for MSTies everywhere. As Servo often commented, they were getting into a whole weird area there.
In Warrior Of The Lost World, there's that scene at the end where the hero (the Paper Chase Guy) kisses the heroine (that woman from that one Star Trek movie). I know it was supposed to be passionate and romantic and climactic and all, but somehow, it just grossed me out. I don't know why.
The restaurant scene in Monster A-Go-Go. The guy asks his wife if she remembers that song, and asks if she wants to dance, and there's no frickin' music playing! The waiter in the foreground keeps cooking that same damn' omelet through the whole scene. Aaugggghhh.
Those two grunts in that control room oogling the kids making out on the TV screens in Attack Of The The Eye Creatures. Joel & the Bots picked right up on that and laid some awesome riffage over it, but, still -- man, that was just frickin' sick.
The short, Money Talks -- all of it, and I mean all of it. A number of the shorts were kind of tough to get through -- I'd never have surived Cheating without the outstanding riffing -- but Money Talks had to be the darkest, weirdest thing I'd ever seen. Talk about getting into a whole weird area; I still can't believe they actually showed that movie in schools.
The heroine's dancing in the nightclub scene in Space Mutiny. I actually thought she was pretty hot -- she had the legs and ass, fersure -- but her dancing was atrocious. I know it was supposed to be all hot'n'saucy'n'sexy and all, but instead, I was cringing non-stop through that whole scene. Servo totally nailed it: "...she's presenting like a mandrill!" Eeeewwwwww.
Eric's cardigan vest sweater, shirt & tie ensemble in The Screaming Skull. Jeezus, that had to be the dorkiest outfit I'd ever seen. He looked like his mother picked out that outfit. He looked like the kind of kid that even the geeks in the AV Lab and Computer Club picked on. He changes outfits a few times here and there, but mostly he wears that same godawful sweater with a dress shirt and tie through the whole frickin' movie. Eeeeurrrgghh.
That fight scene on the beach in Horror Of Party Beach. Servo -- I think it was -- mentions that that fight was choreographed by William Shatner, and he was pretty much right. That bit where two guys lock hands and toss their buddy into the air so he can backflip and land on a guy's face -- what was the goddamn' point of that? And that other bit where two guys pick up their friend and use him as a battering ram to head-butt some other guy in the stomach -- FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, WHY???
That smarmy, stupid song the hero sings to his crippled kid sister in The Giant Gila Monster. And the Lord said, "please, pleeeease, somebody MAKE IT STOP!"
As far as cringe-worthy riffage, it really took a lot to get me cringing. That one Crow riff in Horrors Of Spider Island -- "paddle with your panties or your breasts" -- was actually pretty funny, and basically summed up the whole attitude of the movie: a great big excuse to show a bunch of hot babes with hardly any clothes on, shipwrecked on an isolated island, getting all languid and sex-starved and man-crazy.
There is one, though, that totally grosses me out even while I'm laughing my ass off at it. It's a Servo riff in Horror Of Party Beach, during one of the beach dance scenes (cringe-worthy in themselves): Band (singing): Everybody do it, do it, do it -- Servo (singing back): --pick yer nose and chew it, chew it, chew it! I laugh at that riff until I hurt every time, even as I'm thinking "oh, jeeeeeezus, thanks a lot, Servo!"

The whole voodoo dancing in Deep 13 and the outfits Dr. F and Frank wear, in Zombie Nightmare. Ugh.
Also whatever early episode it was where Dr. F wears a pair of really racist glasses with narrowed eyes for some invention exchange. Uugh.
At least they cooled it with that racist garbage later on in the series...

In other words, "Real hetero men are heartless, insensitive goons!"
The non-stop Gay/Crossdresser/Transexual jokes about those two are either funny in a "I feel guilty for laughing at this transphobic crap" way or just plain stupid. I don't mind the Nazi stuff, though.
For all her apparent manishness, I thought Drunk Dancer Lady was actually a very attractive young woman. She was also played by Ray Dennis Steckler's then-wife. They both also appeared in EEGAH as that couple by the pool ('Ray Bolger?! NOOOO!').

Oh, God, no. That "Clayton! Clayton! You're killing me Clayton! Clayton! Clayton!" crap from Deathstalker is totally devoid of humor from start to finish. There have been plenty of MST3K host segments that I didn't think were any good, but the "Clayton! Clayton!" nonsense is just about the only host segment that I'll skip over. The one redeeming aspect is that it led to Dr. Forrester's locking his mom up in a dollhouse in Escape 2000. "Death...would be a blessing." Indeed.
I do confess that the bit in Deathstalker where Pearl has Crow read from a soft-core Harlequin romance novel is pretty funny, though. You have to cringe a little, but it's a good sort of cringe.
The "Nummy Muffin Coocol Butter" stuff does make me cringe, though, it's so awful. The concept isn't funny, TV's Frank's horrible singing isn't funny...the complaints about Nummy shedding fur everywhere is a bit amusing, maybe, but not enough to make up for the rest. Still, I'll tolerate the Nummy Muffin segments.
EDIT: On reflection I think I'd have to add Tom Servo's breakdown from The Violent Years to the list of host segments I'll fast-forward through. Normally I have no patience with folks who complain that a host segment has nothing to do with the movie being riffed, but in this case I just have to ask: what the hell was the point? What does a callback to a truly wretched Barbra Streisand movie have to do with anything?

I just finished watching the Gamera box set, and the sketch at the end of Gamera vs. Zigra where they each sing the Gamera theme song in a different style...gahh...so, so awful. Joel's reggae version especially. Give me 10 Joey the Lemur sketches over that every time.

Well, the bit itself was hilarious, although I was cringing in solidarity with Nelson when he was stuck at the tea party with Gypsy discussing the latest episode of "Designing Women" while Crow and Servo were off playing tennis... (and, of course, being a total ditz, I can't recall which Experiment despite having seen it a zillion times and also having seen it just recently)
Poor Nelson... jeezus, that must've been a really excruciating situation to be stuck in.
