I took a few days off work and came up to D.C. to see the Nats. A buddy of mine is a huge Cubs fan so the last couple of years we come up when the Cubbies are in town. It's nice to know that the Nats will have their 1st above .500 season since they moved to the nation's Capitol, and there is still a month left in the season.

The Twins are terrible and they have been all year, so I've watched this season from a distance. But I'm watching them beat the White Sox 12-4 right now, so that's good. We'll probably lose the game 17-13 and the Sox will take the pennant, but you have to enjoy the little things while you can.
The Strasburg overhype (in my opinion) aside, I've always kinda liked the Nats. I liked the Expos and felt solidarity with them when they were talking about contracting them and the Twins. Quite a few player connections, as well. Christian Guzman was part of the Twins resurgence several years ago, and we still have Matt Capps from the Wilson Ramos trade.

Just got back from the game, and boy did the offense click tonight. Beat the Cubs 11-5 and hit 6 home runs tonight. Edwin Jackson pitched well the first 5 innings but with 2 outs in the sixth he hit the proverbial wall. Luckily we were playing the Cubs so not too much damage was done. We got tix for tomorrow night with Gio on the hill, so I like the Nats chances. And it's $1 hot dog night!!!! And on top of it all Colorado beat Atlanta tonight (thx Mr. A) so now the Nats are 7 1/2 games up on the Braves.

Went to the Nats game last night and Home Run Derby broke out. Tues night they tied a club record for most home runs in a game, and last night they tied the record again. Harper hit 2 Bombs and Gio was dealing on the mound, went 7 innings and gave up only 3 hits. And he had a no hitter through 5. Of course I jinxed him when I said to my friend if he can get thru 6 unscathed we might be watching history. By the time the words were out of my mouth the Cubbies got their 1st hit. D'oh! Of course after the game we got sloshed. My friend to drown his sorrows and me to celebrate.

Watched Nats and Cubs last night....a hockey game broke out. If the Cubs could hit the ball as well as they could flap their gums they wouldn't be in 5th place.

I love the Cubs. And I can't wait to help them celebrate when they finally win the World Series after breaking their 200 year losing streak.

But you can take comfort in the fact that if the White Sox do win the division, we'll probably be out in the ALDS. Unfortunately, it looks like even the Tigers will be if they squeak by us. Poor AL Central. Fighting all year for slightly less irrelevance...

I was really hoping the White Sox would make the playoffs, because I really think they're a better team with Robin Ventura as their manager. Plus, they are an exciting team to watch and fans are coming out to the park. I've been to 3 White Sox games this year, and all have been fun. Hopefully they can pull something out of their hats and at least make the playoffs.

Poor AL Central. Fighting all year for slightly less irrelevance... It's hard to imagine that it was a higher-regarded division than the AL East not that terribly long ago. It has really fallen off in recent years. Twins games (and AL Central games in general) were can't-miss viewing for me for a long time because of the great play and close division races. At least the Sox/Tigers race is close right now. I agree, I don't think either will make it out of the first round of playoffs, but I still support the AL Central when the Twins are out of it.

Now my only local fun is hoping the Cubs get to 100 losses... so that when they play the Astros it'll be the first time since the 60s that two 100 loss teams have plated each other.
And, appropriately, the Cubs hosted that game, too.
Go Chicago!

Yankees are going down to the final day. Got to say that this has been a very exciting season...many playoff races going down to the literal wire. While I'm not crazy about the one game wildcard (thought it should be a best of 3), the storylines are great. Who would have thought Baltimore and Oakland would be playoff bound? And the Braves are back in, which I also like for Chipper Jones. He's a class act. Cardinals lost Albert Pujols but still find a way to get to playoffs. Exciting for sure.
