I'm sure the color has to do with the composition of the photograph. Something in earth tones wouldn't allow for the same sharpness of definition on the penetration shot. But you also wouldn't want something too red or flesh-toned because it might blend with the "interiors"...unless, of course, you're going to for a bit of ambiguity of where penetrator and penetratee ends. I suppose the type of lighting might also change your choice of color: do you want the focus on the object or on the figure? Will it be in shadow, how much is exposed (i.e., unpenetrating), is it matte or high gloss? These things matter to the connoisseur.
