I'm not asking you to Google it. I know where it's from and I was under the presumption that it was iconic. I made a joke about it on facebook and no-one seems to understand it. So, I am forced to decide if my friends on FB are pop-culture clueless OR if I am expecting way too much recognition from a movie that's a couple of decades old (as a MSTie would). Just tell me if you recognize it. I'd be interested in knowing how far off in left field I am. . .

Not sure but I'll guess its a car on the shoulder of a road.
It hit me immediately when I googled it. Seen it 4-5 times. Does that make me semi-clueless?

anyone who doesn't recognize this car IMMEDIATELY needs to be sent to a FEMA camp for re-education. de-face their asses, mitchell. they're not worthy.

No idea. Let it be said I'm not at all interested in cars, car films, or any of that stuff. So a) I don't know and b) I'm not at all ashamed of it and c) I really don't want to know but d) if you tell me, I'll forget immediately. Cars are for getting you places, that's all. (Though I once saw a 1967 Lotus I thought was cute.)

It's obviously Sam Raimi's Oldsmobile. That car is in every movie ever made.

In all fairness, I've not seen the original movie as often as I've seen its sequel where the car is more dilapidated. And even then, I've not watched the sequel all that often.

To give a serious response, I've never seen the movie, but given this car is supposedly infused in pop culture, I'm going to guess... Smokey and the Bandit? If I'm wrong, I guess I'm crap at pop culture too.

Well, from the initial straw poll here, it's nowhere near as iconic as I would have thought. It's a mfp pursuit cruiser from Mad Max. Here's a clip:

I'm not a car guy so I wouldn't have known it, except for the fact that I bought and watched the movie about a year ago... and even then I was "guessing" at first glance. I think the Batmobiles about the only universally known iconic car. I don't even know if Bond's Aston Martin would be recognizable to the average Joe.

Here's a clip: iconic. i mean we're talking Bullet, Dirty Mary Crazy Larry, Vanishing Point, and this, in no particular order. i love you, mitchell, but your clip is dumb. it seems to be redubbed in american accents for some reason? apparently you can't get it in the original australian language version, so you should watch it in german. ich bin einne knikcht ridde... oh hai, max.

That explains it. I've never seen a frame of Mad Max. I just know Mel Gibson's in it and nothing else.

Late to the party here, but I recognized it right away. I think the black version in Road Warrior is more iconic though, partially because the Road Warrior is a far better film. For the car people out there, Eric Bana made an excellent documentary about his own XB Falcon. Those things were legendary in Australian racing, and gorgeous as well. It's a shame Ford never brought it here. Although, that era Mustang was similar, and one of my favorite cars, so there's not much to complain about.
