Carroll Shelby who designed the Shelby Cobra, and helped design Ford Mustang GT350 and the Dodge Viper died Thursday May, 10 at the age of 89. Shelby won the 24 hours of LeMans in 1959 and was twice named Sports Illustrated's Driver of the Year. He was also one of the longest surviving heart transplant recipients, receiving a heart in 1990 he also had a kidney transplant in 1996. He founded a charity for children who needed cardiac and kidney care. Thinking of the most intriguing cars I've seen, it's crazy how many Shelby had a hand in: the GT, the GT40, the GT350, the Cobra, the Viper, the Ford Daytona. The guy really knew how to make gorgeous, fast cars. RIP Carroll. Earlier this year, I was able to see a genuine Cobra at auction. It was surreal getting to walk up to an $850,000 car.
