Oh, and we just saw the fantastic 1965 film The Loved One, . . . A truly great film. I love Gielgud's line about how Americans are always talking, but you needn't listen. Have you seen Kitano's remake? I rewatched that just the other night, but it's been ages since I saw any of the Katsu ones. If so, any thoughts on it? The funny thing about The Loved One is that it seemed like exactly the kind of film I would adore, yet I'd never heard of it. Tom and I were talking about movies one day and he remembered seeing the film as a teenager, though he couldn't remember the name of it. So he looked it up and got it on Netflix, knowing I would love it. I did. :-) Yeah, we saw the 2003 Zatoichi, and I liked it, but to me Katsu WAS Zatoichi, so I couldn't get as into his character in the remake.

Did you ever see any of the Hanzou the Razor series? I remember audible gasps from the audience during Sword of Justice. It seems to be on YouTube in full, so maybe I'll give it another go one of these days.

IFC (when they were still cool) ran the "Hanzo the Razor" films. I think I learned more about Shintaro Katsu's psyche than I ever wanted to.

No, haven't seen those. I'll have to look into them!
