So after Warner's announcement of a Justice League film this week, I dug out a bunch of my DC DVDs, which included the Adventures of Superman, Wonder Woman, the Flash, Lois & Clark, and Smallville. I thought to myself "It's a damn shame Batman isn't on DVD, my shelf feels so empty without it." Then I woke up to this news this morning. It seens Warner has gotten rights to the series from 20th Century Fox. Could we finally see a home video release? TV Shows on DVD still points out how problematic it might be, but I have high hopes. WILL BATMAN SURVIVE THIS DVD DISASTER? TUNE IN NEXT TIME! SAME BAT-TIME! SAME BAT-CHANNEL!

The article has been updated. Sadly DVDs aren't in the works.
Sad face.

Not announced, but I'd say this news brings us closer to an official home video release then ever before. It'll happen, and sooner rather than later.

I hope so, AM. Hope so.
I'm hoping this was like Shout getting the license to the Gamera titles, then sweet-talking their way into an MST set.
Speaking of Shout, they released a disc with the Captain America movies from the 70's starring Reb Brown (Space Mutiny) last year. I was hoping they'd have their foot in the door for a release of the Amazing Spider-Man to coincide with the new movie. Alas, nothing announced.

Ironically, for years the Adam West series was the only reference point most people had for Batman.
That's certainly true for people in my generation.
But it's been over a decade (at least) since the show has been in wide syndication, and it's never been on DVD.
So a reference like "Same bat-time! Same bat-channel!" is probably lost on most younger viewers today.

I'm not sure what you mean by "wide" syndication (local channels?), but last decade Batman was on TV Land and it's currently being shown on the Hub, which has a young fanbase of its own thanks to Transformers Prime.
So it's still commonly seen, at least for youngsters with the large satellite companies. Now if only Adventures of Superman would come back to syndication...

It's also currently airing on the MeTV broadcast network.

The fact that the show is being kept alive by alternative broadcast media does not mean that it's widely seen or known (unfortunately).
Some shows like I Love Lucy never go off the air. You can find them even without a cable connection. The Lucy Show and Here's Lucy? Not so much.
My fear is that Adam West's Batman is destined to go the way of The Lucy Show.

In the meantime, I'm pleased (?) to see that this has survived and is now available on DVD. Legend Of The SuperheroesThis is one of those things that aired only once on TV when I was very young. Looking back, I wondered whether I actually saw it or whether it was only a bad dream. Turns out it was a bit of both, maybe?

If anybody needed a reason to love Conan O'Brian, here it is.It's official! Batman is finally coming to DVD (and Blu-Ray?) in 2014!!! Batsy doesn't return to cinemas until next year in the still untitled Man of Steel sequel, but this news does come hot off the heels of the announcement that the next Batman series Gotham (basically Smallville with Batman characters) has just gotten a pilot order for Fox. While we don't know if that will go to series just yet, the only other live action Batman series will fill the void if it doesn't. Now all I need is the Amazing Spider-Man and my life would be complete.

Great news! Can the brilliant Adam West "Lookwell" pilot be far behind?

I've been holding off on getting any of the cool products or comic books or whatever that have been released in the last year... 'cause I knew the real thing would be coming.
We have arrived!

"Perhaps if you watched a little more television you'd be better at your job." Genius!
