For those of you who don't know, I live in Aurora, CO. I wanted to post to let everyone know that my family and I are all safe and were miles away from last night's shooting.
However, the news is still rolling in, so I'm not sure about friends or friends of friends yet. Even if the victims were all strangers to me, the community will feel this one for a long time. Right now, I'm just absorbing the tragedy and trying to figure out the best way to help.
For those of you who were at the 2007 meetup, the movie theater is about a half mile north of the hotel where you all stayed.
Pray for Aurora.

Had to stop myself from kicking a random teenage kid in the nuts while on line at McDonald's this morning for my family. He was talking to a friend of his, and the conversation turned to The Dark Knight Rises and the shooting. The kid said, and I quote:
"Man, this is such Bull!@$t! I mean, how's the movie gonna make money now? Now everyone is gonna be too scared to go to the movies this weekend!"
.....Excuse me, people *died* in this horrible tragedy, and you worry about the box office performance of a movie?!? God, sometimes, I just wish I could send all of the idiotic, heartless teenagers of the world into the sun.

Glad to see you are okay. When I first saw the headline I was on another board and I thought it was a joke. What happened was just messed up.

It just doesn't make sense to me. All those people wanted was to enjoy a movie. Why externalize your anger on innocent strangers?

Not that it matters, but that was the theater where I was going to see Rifftrax's Manos next month.

Good to hear all is well with you, Mr. A. Certainly a horrible, senseless and tragic event. It does make you wonder what the hell goes on in some people's head.
I will say this, however. I've seen a lot of headlines online that talk about how the shooting "stuns the nation" or "shocks the nation." Disappointingly, I'm not sure just how shocking or stunning these kinds of events are anymore. Going back to the siege at Waco to Columbine and to the shooting of Gabrielle Gifford in Arizona, this kind of event is happening far too often to truly be "shocking," in my opinion. Disgustingly tragic and sad, yes, but not shocking.
Here's hoping healing comes quickly to the community.

I had attended a screening of Rises last night, and I was shocked, appalled, and saddened to learn this news this morning. The families of those who were lost have my prayers and the families of those who were injured have my hope and optimism for a speedy recovery.
Its kind of a shocking feeling, waking up from an event you just attended and knowing somewhere people had died trying to experience the same event the same night. Last year I went to see Paranormal Activity 3 and during the climax a man had a seizure. I had wondered for months afterward if he was okay after that, until my sister heard me talking about it and said she knew the family of the man who seized. He said he maid a full recovery, and that was a releif.
That was all the event I ever care to live through at something like this. I can't imagine what these people are going through.

I just walked into work to this. My first thought was worrying about you, Mr A. Thank you for posting.
Beyond that, it's almost too much to take in yet. Disturbingly, I'm almost not surprised. But I am very, very sad.

New details on the shooting are now saying the suspect dyed his hair red and claimed he was the Joker.
What a sick mind.

Mr. A, glad you are okay. While I'm saddened by this news, I'm not shocked. This kind of thing seems to happen a lot in our society. My prayers go out to all. It sucks that someone can ruin the fun of going to midnight movies, which I love to do. I was unable to go to the midnight show of Dark Knight, but I heard that AMC Theaters are not going to let people dress in costumes. Hopefully it won't go to the point of having to go through a security check before you see a movie. Just a sick guy.

This is terrible. I would go on, but really, why bother? This is an awful, awful thing.

i'm relieved you & yours are okay too, mr. a. i know being so close to it must be very difficult. i think what surprised me most about this is how un-surprised i was. like sia and mod city already said, these terrible events have happened enough over the years that it just makes me sad, not shocked. now even going to see a movie is not safe? it's painful to imagine what the families & friends in that community are going through.

I thought about you when I heard the news Mr. Atari. But I forgot just how close to this tragedy you are. How can we comprehend this type of behavior?
