Okay guys, here it is, the thread where I will update you on the status of the fan MST3K. So here it is, the basic story-line I have as of now (which is subject to change as I get more help from you guys) is I am Mike Josephson, a freshman at Gizmonic University, (they started an engineering school after Joel left the series) and one of my professors asks me to go to retrieve an experimental AI that Forrester and Erhardt stole when they moved to Deep 13. When I take the disc out of the drive, it finishes the installation process of S.I.R.S. the AI and launches the spare S.O.L. into space. (It will be based off a Lego satellite I made and not the traditional S.O.L., since I want to be unique). So when I get up there the AI starts where Dr. Forrester left off. Sending me bad movies. I proceed to build 3 robots. Davey, who was the first, is the robot most eager to riff on the movies, and delivers the most. Max, controls the main systems of the ship, (since I disconnected them from S.I.R.S.) he doesn't watch the movies, but is the main form of communication between me and S.I.R.S. And Gyro, the wise-cracker and more comedic bot. S.I.R.S. can change his face and can be any face he can find, be it HAL 9000 or Dr. F himself (usage of old MST3K footage can help with that). That's what I have so far, I can make the Mad a person if I can get someone to take the part. I might cast it here, if anyone interested, just message me. Here's a link for the pictures I have so far- blackscarabfilmz.blogspot.com/2012/07/my-fan-mst3k.htmlOver and Out, Michael

Okay! I got the materials to create my green screen! Pretty much it's lime green poster board and lime green duct tape. So thats all for today.

Okay guys, I have come up with a concept. I am going to use the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie, because I honestly hated it. It is so bad! I have gotten the idea for host segments too, so I know what I'm doing, I'm still looking for someone to play the Mad, I don't think that the AI thing is a good idea, but I'll use it if I have to.

If the Brains were going to give you any piece of advice, it would be this: Don't riff a comedy. They've done it very rarely with mixed results (the one quality exception is possibly Hobgoblins, but even that's arguable). Even if your riffs are genuine quality, the films own brand will overwhelm it and it's very dangerous ground.
So, I'd suggest second guessing your choice of movie. It's up to you, since it's your project, but that's my advice.

Torgo Well, I know it's a comedy, but it's so damn bad! It's just I can't find anything better, so for now it's all I got. For everyone else, I have a really good update, I am redesigning the bots, not a visual one, but on how they work, I am adding a puppet element to Gyro (a string to pull when he talks) and fixing Davey's head, it's not really secure with duct tape so I am adding a screw to it. Max, on the other hand is fantastic! I even found a potential voice actor for him. He stays together the best, since he was the simplest to make. Gyro's the most complicated, he falls apart often so I'm fixing that. If anyone has suggestions for a better movie to riff on that hasn't been done, feel free to leave a suggestion. Over and out, Michael

My suggestions for film choice is that you don't just look into how much you dislike a movie but you look at what the movie itself has to offer to the art form. Take a look at the film itself and ask yourself "Can I make this funny?" or "What can I make fun of?" I'd look at Hitchhiker's Guide and my answer would be a complete and utter no. The film has too much going on and while silly, it's silly because it's supposed to make the audience laugh at it. Whether it does or not is subjective, and trying to turn a joke that doesn't make you laugh into one that does is an uphill battle.
Low rent horror is always an easy spot to cut riffing gums on. It's easy to find cheap public domain DVDs with thousands of opportunities on them, and modern direct to video fare is always begging for it. That's where I'd divert my attention to, but that's just me.

Yeah, I was going to use Breaking Bow Parts 1 and 2 but I cant find any easily downloadable footage. So it's back to looking, but MST3K did everything already. Back to looking!

Okay guys, big big update here. Filming cannot begin until really late in August because one of people I want to ask and would trust with the puppets is living half way across the country without internet or phone access. So I can't even ask him yet. But expect updates to keep coming in, I haven't even gotten the movie yet, so I guess that's what I'll keep looking for. Also looking to cast a mad, the AI think is gonna be to hard and I don't know how it would work. So if anyone here has a greenscreen and wants to be a mad, send me a message, but I think I'll pull an MST3K move and cast my puppet operators as the mads.

Have you started writing yet? Or you need the movie first?
(I realize you would need the movie in general, just wasn't sure if you had a bunch of ideas and such already planned out, based on any previous viewings...)

Well, I was going to do the Hitchhiker's Guide movie but I reconsidered it and I'm still looking for ideas

Okay, I am still trying to figure out cheap green screen lighting. This is what I get when I use the green screen with normal room lighting, plus a large flashlight. blackscarabfilmz.blogspot.com/2012/07/green-screen-test.htmlYes, that is a Plusle, and the background is the SOL Background I made on paint.net

Okay, well. Not much to say, except I am re-writing the whole continuity of the show. I'm still Michael Joesephson except instead of the AI trapping me, a fellow classmate, who idolizes Dr. Forrester and Erhardt and decides to use me as his test subject. But, I don't have a theme song yet. So, I'm writing that.

HUGE HUGE UPDATE TODAY! I've been using Serif's MoviePlusStarter, and finally caved into buying the Movie Plus x5 for 20 bucks, so I did and I found the effect for the Shadowrama. I am so damn happy today. But I still have no movie, but I'll find one eventually

Big update, thanks to tobymobias, I found archive.org and in such he also directed me to War of the Robots. I'm going to watch it. So I finally found a movie. More updates soon. Also, I scrapped the rewritten continuity. I'm using the AI.
