a very interesting little writeup on "Louis" in this week's new yorker (july 7-14), if you happen to see it on the newsstands. (I dunno; are there still "newsstands"?) Fair warning, it seemed to my mind to spoil some pretty major events, which is something i don't really care about much but i know a lot of people do. then again, maybe what i read happened in season three, which i still haven't seen.
Emily Nussbaum seemed to be on the same page with me as far as Louis, although this whole "This season isn't as good as the last" thing can get to be a bit of an old habit. (I watched "Veep" out of order, for instance, and kept thinking to myself "You know, this season isn't as good as the last one" before remembering that I was watching season one and the last season I'd watched was season two.) "Louis" sorta invites those criticisms by being very open-ended and ambiguous, I think.

i think the new (and last) season just started? i'm not sure. i looked around for it last night but couldn't find it. i'll watch it since i've seen most of wilfred from the beginning. but i'm glad it's ending. i wished they hadn't spent so much time on the how and why of wilfred - i thought it was a much funnier show when it was just wilfred getting ryan into crazy situations. i finished season two of Wilfred a couple nights ago. I thought the season got better as it went. Some gags from the earlier episodes fell flat (squishy t*ts and the doggie dancing stuff seemed far-fetched and pandering, respectively) but it got much more fun near the end. I particularly liked the child drawing with the proto-Wilfred peeking out from behind the tree. I do however heed your warning about season three going too far into origin stories. I'm actually a big believer that comedies don't usually need plots unless the comedy IS the plot. (e.g., the various intrigues in It's a Mad etc. World and Bringing up Baby ARE the movie, but "Office Space" could have just been an hour and a half of bitter gags about how awful working in corporate offices is. The whole virus-embezzlement thing was just a distraction.) I just can't imagine any effort on Ryan's part to solve the mystery of Wilfred isn't going to end up anywhere but in a Lost-style train wreck of a series finale. A "shaggy dog," if you will. i know what you mean about louis's wife - i have often wondered what she must think of his success. she was with him when he was barely getting by on his comedy and now that they split up, he's this huge player in the biz. i assume they must have a somewhat cordial relationship, or else she'd be on every talk show out there to bitch about him. i wonder what his girls will think when they grow up about some of the things he's said about them in his stand up. some of it has been pretty frank. still love louis, though. did you see him on jerry seinfield's comedians in cars getting coffee? it was great. I can't remember if i saw Louis on CCgC. That show actually irks me a bit for some reason. I think it's that, first, Seinfeld's flaunting of his own wealth with the fancy cars is a bit annoying. Second, Seinfeld just isn't that interesting a guy, if you ask me. Third, why coffee? It's just such a hipster, stand-offish, first date with someone you met on an internet personal ad type thing. Why not dinner? Why not chocolates, a la "Good Will Hunting"? Why not a bar? There's this great bit in "Veep" where the slimy white house liaison guy is trying to dish out a scoop to a Daily Mirror reporter over coffee and the reporter keeps saying how he can't stand sitting over coffee and how much he wants to go to a pub and settle their affairs over a couple of pints. On the other hand, Louis regularly makes the otherwise reprehensible "Opie and Anthony" listenable, I'm sure he did wonders for Comedian Car Coffee...

it was one of the funniest ones i saw. he went into detail on how he prepares himself to go to a movie - how he gets very stoned first and packs his pockets with snacks, etc. and he also told a story at the end about his new boat - it's pretty big and it was the first time he had taken his daughters out on it and they got stuck. it was hilarious.
they didn't do that one in a coffee shop, but on louis's boat. i didn't know if the coffee shop was a throwback to the little diner that was frequently the setting in seinfield or just a way to show the little coffee joints around NYC. either way, it didn't bother me. i'd be cool if they just sat in someone's garage and drank something out of a paper bag.
i never was all ga-ga over seinfield myself - i have nothing against him, though. and as for flaunting his wealth with the cars, i forget who it is, but it's sponsored by a car company, and i'm guessing they are all loaners. the one he did with ricky gervais was great - it was a tiny little car and ricky was terrified the whole way.

I love Louis C.K. my brother and I went to watch his stand up act a few years ago at the Mahalia Jackson theatre here in New Orleans, he was great.
I never watched Louis yet for some reason, have to make a point to check that one out.
My favorite moments with Louis C.K. is his old appearances on the Opie and Anthony show before he was as huge a comedian he is now. Him just sitting around and joking with Opie and Anthony and the other comedians on the show is priceless to me, even better than his standup act which I love. Its just such a casual atmosphere where his hilarity really shines.
One of the bits he was involved with on the O&A show was called "Slave Girl" also starring Patrice O'Neal and a young, silly intern named Francine. Its hilarious and can be found on youtube, but be warned, its quite vulgar and definitely not safe for work lol.

i'll definitely look that up.
this will always be my favorite bit of his standup -
nsfw, obviously. i've posted this here before, but i never get tired of it. it's hilarious because it is so true.
you saw his act?? lucky!! if you love louis, you have to watch his show. it is so amazing. a perfect blend of tragedy and comedy. when seinfield had him on that comedians in cars getting coffee thing is great, too.

Excellent clip lol. I can't believe I didn't see that one. "IM LEAVING!!!" lol. My favorite part is right in the beginning, "Can I take my portion home and smoke it later….without you."
Yeah him and Seinfeld on Comedians in Cars was good too. Him sharing his love of the 3d IMAX logo while he was stoned, and his whole routine of buying tickets online so he didn't have to deal with face to face conversation.
Joel did a Comedians in Cars with Jerry too though I'm sure you already know that considering this is a MST message board.
Louis' standup was awesome live. He dealt with a heckler in an interesting, Louis-like way too. A guy was yelling things at him right in the beginning of his routine and Louis just told him "You can stop yelling stuff at me, because I'm not gonna acknowledge you at all." It was a great night, my brother's the one who turned me on to Louis and O&A all those years ago.

I have not just yet, but was planning on it. Ant's my favorite. I believe that I've read on another thread that you signed up to The Anthony Cumia show, how is it so far? I saw that he had Norton on there already, Colin Quinn too, so the guests are coming aboard the new show. I haven't canceled my Sirius/XM yet but I likely will if they end the show in October. I like Ron and Fez and some of the music stations, but I can't see myself staying aboard without the O&A show, especially sans Anthony. Since you are a Anthony Cumia Show subscriber, I assume you've seen this already lol. link

Skyroniter, if you saw the above clip that I linked from the Anthony Cumia Show, you might also like this. And after you are done with that, check out this. I am also very fond of this one. Heck, just watch them all if you are a CQ fan.

Thanks for the clips. I've enjoyed the show though I've rarely had time to listen more than once per week. I've only watched a couple Davey Mac is a fave so I watched that one. Dice Clay was great too.

Dice Clay was great too. Now you are making me want to subscribe right away. He had Davey Mac and Dice already?? That is wonderful news. Poor Davey Mac, Sirius wouldn't give him a raise so he could afford the gas money it took him to make it in studio, and he was such a huge part of Ron and Fez IMO. Was Ant doing his Dice impression while speaking with Clay? That could have gotten awkward lol.

Shall I bump this thread to say that I'm listening to Ron Bennington's solo show right now?

Love Ron too. He's hilarious. I used to listen to him out of Miami on an am station.
I think I'll start our thread so we don't hijack this one.
