We've all posted threads that get no reply. It's nothing personal. People either have nothing to say or have already said it in the past and don't want to do so again. I've done many book list over the years, but for the hell of it, here's a few I like... - Brothers Karamazov and Crimes and Punishment from Dostoyevsky
- Second Coming by Walker Percy
- Brideshead Revisted and Decline and Fall by Evelyn Waugh
- Mystery/Crime novels by Hillerman, Michael Connelly and Lee Child
- The Power and the Glory, Graham Greene

Hmmmmmm...
Catch-22 by Joseph Heller The Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift Journey to the West by Wu Cheng'en Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett (several other Pratchett books could fit, but I'll go with this one) Flashman by George MacDonald Fraser Winnie the Pooh/House at Pooh Corner by A.A. Milne The Lorax by Dr. Seuss
... I'm a big fairy/folk tale buff, so there are plenty of books I could list here, from the famous Grimm and Afanasyev collections to the lesser know collections of Richard Chase (who's from my hometown!).

Just to go back to the point of "why isn't anyone responding"... lists don't give anything to anyone to go on. What you'll get in response are other peoples' lists of their favorite stuff...again, with no explanation.
What about the books makes them your favorite? Give qualities and people will have something to go on.
But who cares: read _Lint_ by Steve Aylett. It's currently my mission to make as many people read that book as I can.

Well, what I like about those books is the personal journey. "The Road" became popular about the time my life fell apart. I was losing everything and the only bond unbroken was the one with my son. Reading the book reminded me alot of the way him and I interacted and our relationship. "Into the wild" was even more intersting to me because it mirrored how I felt. The longing to get in my car and drive it until it ran out of gas and start walking. Leave it all behind and vanish. Start new and simple. I guess books about being a lone drifter are what I find appealing.
