Alas, RGIII, we hardly knew ye. Just saw that the nature of his injury is "still unknown" (though he presumably had an MRI last night) and he's looking for a "second opinion."
I saw him go down and it looked pretty bad. No one even touched him, he just crumpled after an awkward snap. Luckily the season's over but I'd say there's at least a small chance of a career-ending knee injury. If not I hope they learn their lesson and play a more traditional offense next season rather than keep hanging him out there on these sneak plays.
On the other hand, Kirk Cousins is pretty good. 'Skins fans are in the weird position of going from having no good quarterbacks the way we've been the past few seasons, to suddenly having two. it's very disorienting.

Hawks lost one of their best defenseman and their kicker is hobbled, and both injuries came as a result of that field. You know, if Green Bay can put together a professional and playable field in difficult weather conditions, and do so for decades, then so should everyone else.
I've never been a Redskin's backer, but I'm sorry to read about RGIII's injuries too. He's good for the game, not just as a player, but he's got a good personality and seems to be a person of character. I hope he's able to make a quick and healthy return.

I keep waiting to find out RGIII deals in human trafficking or practices autoerotic asphyxiation or something. that guy's too wholesome, it makes me suspicious.

I'm sad that the Hogettes are going to retire. The Hogettes, for those who don't know, are guys who wear pig snouts, women's dresses and garden hats to Washington Redskins games. They've been doing this for 30 years.

With apologies to the Super Bowl XL Seahawks, that was the worst officiated game I've ever seen. For both teams. I'm not whining just because the Broncos lost, but those were some awful penalty calls, terrible review decisions, and complete ineptitude by the zebras for 4 quarters and 2 overtimes.
Still, Denver would have lost that game all on their own. Champ Bailey got beat deep 3 different times? Manning threw that pass in overtime? Von Miller & Elvis Dumervil made no difference? That play with 31 seconds left in regulation? Terrible. Just terrible. Even if we had pulled it out in the end, New England would have beaten us by 50 next week.
It's a good thing I have 37 years of being a Cubs fan to prepare me for days like this.

Yeah, I watched that game and I mean, it was just a weird game. The officiating was pretty bad(and as a Packer fan, I know a bit about bad officials). Anyway, the game was exciting, watching it go back and forth like that. Peyton Manning is a great QB but he had no business throwing that pass in OT. I'm sure the Broncos will be back next year, though.

I agree with you, Mr. A. Some real head scratching reviews in that game.

So much of Manning's game is rhythm. It seemed like every 3 plays, there was a stoppage for a measurement or a cheap flag or a review or a referee conference. They couldn't get any flow going at all, and it was almost completely the officials' doing.
I also wonder if there was something physically wrong with Manning. I don't think he even attempted a throw longer than 15 yards. Flacco was stretching the field early and often (and successfully), whereas Manning just played the dink and dump all day.
I'm a little bummed that Seattle lost this afternoon. When they scored the go-ahead touchdown with a minute left, my son said, "They scored too soon." I assured him not to worry and that there's no way they'd make the same dumb secondary mistakes the Broncos made yesterday. And then they did. Boo.

I'm more thanjust a little bummed Seattle lost. Packers too (Did they even put a defensive team on the field? Because I didn't see one). Depressing weekend for ol TPM? Gonna drown my sorrows in Star Trek and XTC tonight (the music, not the drug

I think the Packers should fire defensive coordinator Dom Capers. Second year in a row defense has let the team down. I don't think that they ever made any adjustments as far as trying to stop Colin Kaepernick.

So much of Manning's game is rhythm. And that's the problem. Even without stoppages from officials, disrupting the receivers and their routes can do the same. Brady has the same problem, but it's more about pressure up the middle on him. Same basic theory though. Get them off their rhythm and you've won half the battle. I'm bummed we won't get Peyton-Brady 14, but we did already get a regular season game. And now I'm stuck with another week of the Ray Lewis farewell tour. The officiating was brutal in Denver and there were a couple of them in New England (was Wes Welker held? Yes. Should it have been called? Debatable.). What I'll never understand is Manning taking that knee. Of course, perhaps bad Manning would have shown up and thrown a brutal interception earlier but you have to try. It reminds me of John Madden saying the Pats should go to overtime against the Rams in 2002. Really? What the hell are you thinking? To be generous though, Peyton does have a spotty playoff record. But if the last line of defense had stayed back rather than allow a 70 yard TD, Manning doesn't have the chance to be goat number three. With that ramble done I shall move onto my revised picks. San Fran over Atlanta New England over Baltimore Sticking with the Pats for the SB win.

I think the Packers should fire defensive coordinator Dom Capers. Second year in a row defense has let the team down. I don't think that they ever made any adjustments as far as trying to stop Colin Kaepernick. Yeah what's happened to him. Has the game just passed him by and he's unable to adjust? He used to be considered one of the best D-coordinators in the league. I was more invested with my Hawks this season because I've already seen the Pack win a few SBs, but I hate, hate the 49ers and losing to them - and looking like fools while doing so - was painful. As for the Hawks. I'm encouraged. Bruising RBs like Lynch don't last long, but I think he has at least 2 years left in the tank and Wilson should (hopefully) mature even more (he does seem to have a good head on his shoulders. So I hope we don't get the dreaded sophomore slump). If we we can add a top level WR threat and a consistant sack specialist, I think a SB is a definite possibility within that 2 year time frame. Plus they learned to win on the road by the end, so that monkey should be off our backs.

I may be alone on this, and I'm gonna sound incredibly mean, but...
...I cackled with glee when I saw Tom Brady's big ole frowny face as he slumped off the field at the end of that Ravens/Patriots game...

My mother will be thrilled her Niners made it to the bowl this year. My father's a Raiders fan so he's used to disappointment. My sis has been discouraged with the NFL ever since Romo started QBing for her Cowboys. I don't get to see many games on TV unless I'm visiting someone's house but the last time I saw Romo play I actually felt sorry for both her and the Cowboys. It takes a lot for me to feel sorry for the Cowboys.
As for me, I don't really follow anybody but I'll root for the Packers any year just so I can watch Giant Spider Invasion after they win the Super Bowl. I think I'll side with the 49ers since it's one of the family teams. If I can't have my team get the win, I'll let mom have her day to shine.
