I prefer a lack of rapine and pillaging in my life. Pirates can bite my heiney. That falls under 'plundering booty'

I think it only fair to have holidays like "Dress Like A Press-Ganged Deck Hand" or "Talk Like A Violently Deflowered Native Maiden". And of course "They Murdered Our Whole Family For Booze Money Week".
Seriously, I don't get the pirate passion. It's like when a Ren Faire leaves out all the plague, servant rape, and unsafe drinking water.

Most were "conscripted" by force at a young age and kept at sea for so long that they just didn't know how to reintegrate. Most of the rest were there out of necessity, not for any romantic reasons. But did you know that Elizabethan English, i.e., the accent that Shakespeare most likely spoke, is closer to what an American sounds like when they "speak pirate" than modern English accents? Leave out the "matey" and "land lubber" crap but keep the accent, and that's probably pretty close to what Hamlet sounded like in the original production.

....dad...?
i occasionally found pirate talk mildly amusing (depending on the person speaking - mostly myself) - until they went and made a day out of it. and johnny depp dragged keith richards into it. i'm assuming hallmark already has cards for the occasion?

This thread is way too informative for Sloane. In an attempt to get it back on track I offer this...
