So Smallville Junior...er...I mean Arrow premiered this week. I watched most of the pilot online. I say "most" because the CW's online video system is pretty crap and I had so many screw ups with the player I just had to shut it off (it took me about two hours to watch half of it). If Hulu puts it up next week, I'll finish it then.
My thoughts? Kind of mixed. Pilots generally are weak for this type of series, since they're setting up so much in so little time. With that in mind, I guess it wasn't too bad. I thought the dialogue was stiff and it felt like it was overselling the premise. But the action scenes were pretty good, other than the various scenes of Green Arrow being about two feet away from men with guns firing at him and somehow they miss entirely, yet he can run up to them and hit them just fine (it was like watching Equilibrium all over again). But the stunt work was polished, I just hope the choreography gets more confident.
I was worried about Katie Cassidy playing Dinah Lance (future Black Canary), having only seen her as the bubbly girl who dies in Taken, but she did okay. Whether she has it in her to play my beloved Canary is up to fate. Stephen Amell is more rugged than Justin Hartley, so I liked him better as the Emerald Archer than the Smallville version, though I'll give Hartley the edge in playboy persona.
I'm eager to get a glimpse of the series it will become. The melodramatics are a bit too Smallville-ian, but I'm hoping it will settle into its own grove as it goes on. Hopefully it packs punch.

Did anyone else ever watch "Dead Zone"? Are they using the same house for the Queens as Johnny's house in that show? It looks familiar.
I've been watching this since it started. It's okay so far. Not stellar or anything. Super Hero shows don't really do it for me. (Oddly enough, I DID watch "Heroes", which was pretty darn good - for like, half a season).
Hope this doesn't run out of steam before it even gets started.

I really HATE Oliver's sister, Thea. She's such a self-absorbed be-yotch. "I know you got in a boat accident which was fatal for dad and the girl you were with, and you were stranded on an island for five years and tortured, but you LEFT me ALONE".
Jerk.

Um. When he zip lined into that warehouse, where was he COMING from? And the place was "booby trapped", but apparently where he landed was fine.

Some friends of mine and I wondered if it was actually Castle Luthor from Smallville. Then the same castle was seen in an episode of Supernatural. We're currently trying to work out a continuity that puts all CW shows into one universe, all revolving around the presence of this one castle (which, as was said in Smallville, was a castle that had already been moved brick by brick once anyway, so we already know the castle gets around.)

Maybe it's one of the producers houses. "Hey, just film it at my place." You'll have to look and see if there's a name common to all the shows, heh.
My fave, Ben Browder, from Farscape guest starred - is that one word or two? - last night (for about five minutes). Heh, not as toned as he used to be. (But we're all getting older and wider).
Edit: Maybe it was just the outfit. I saw a recent interview and he looks fine.

I've never read the comics, but does anyone else think that too many people know Oliver's "secret" identity?

Pretty good casting for Moira and Thea. Both actresses have beauty marks on their upper right cheeks and also right on their left upper lips. What are the chances o'that?

I'm glad at least Crowschmo got some use out of this topic. Lol.
It's been a while since I made it, but I watched the first season on blu-ray a while back and found it uneven. The series felt like an odd hybrid of Smallville and Batman Begins that was always leeching off their popularity instead of creating its own identity. For the most part the writing was fairly poor, forcing in pop culture references for humor, though it was toned down as it went on. Pretty much what kept me watching were Diggs and Felicity, who I found to be wildly entertaining characters.
However, the finale of the season kicked the show in the ass and it left me curious to see what happened next. I've been watching season two first run and I'm hooked. It's daring and exciting, now this is the series I hoped it would be during the first season. I'm eager to see Oliver square off with Deathstroke later on and the addition of the League of Shadows has been fun.
Overall, I think this season of Arrow has been kicking Agents of SHIELD's ass in quality entertainment, though I think SHIELD's first season has been more consistent than Arrow's. I'm looking forward to seeing the Flash's spinoff should it get picked up, since his last attempt at a series was fantastic yet cut short.

While I really enjoyed this season so far, I have to say these final episodes feel too much like the Dark Knight Rises: With Oliver as Batman, Deathstroke as Bane, yadda yadda. With my comparisons to last year and Batman Begins I was really hoping they'd evolve into something more original.

Okay. So, did Thea actually SHOOT dear old dad, or did they do the old trick of - there's someone behind him and she shot THAT person instead, to save him?

Chances are Malcolm's still alive. The producers have already stated they intend to keep the character throughout the entire run of the series.
