for the last three or four weeks, i have had a really difficult time maneuvering around on this board. i suspect it is because i just have a slow computer (it's old), but no other sites i go to give me as much trouble as proboards.
it takes forEVER for a page to load, and i get a bunch of error messages when i try to post. i've run the malware, spyware, registry cleaners and all that, but nothing suspicious has turned up.
has anyone else had this problem?

No problems here.
Have you tried using the site on a different browser? When I'm having issues on Firefox, I'll open Chrome to see if it's something in the browser (cookies/cache/extension/etc.) causing the problem.

I haven't had loading issues, but it's not unheard of.
What sort of errors are you getting when you post?

i've blanked on what the message says - i shouldn't because i've seen it a blasted million times. but i've been getting them every other time i try to post.
i've been using google chrome for several months. i switched to it (even though i didn't like it much) because of an issue i was having with my gmail account. i cleaned out the cookies and all that crap last night before i went to bed, but haven't really had a chance to see if it has helped anything yet. i use chrome at my work computer as well, but i haven't had any problems here - and it's basically the same computer as i have at home.

i cleaned out the cookies and all that crap last night before i went to bed, but haven't really had a chance to see if it has helped anything yet. well, that didn't help. the error message - since i just got another one - said google chrome couldn't connect to forrestcrow.whatever. maybe i should just dump google chrome out of my computer and see if that does anything.

I've also been having hang-up problems lately. Usually my status bar tells me it's the ads ("waiting for ads-doubleclick") that aren't loading and the page grinds to a halt. When I refresh, I get the "Can't Connect" gray screen. Last night, it crashed my whole internet connection and I had to reset my modem.
This is on Google Chrome on my Mac (version 10.8.2).

well, i ditched google chrome and i can see improvement. no error messages - a little slow, but at least it hasn't taken two full minutes or more to open a thread. and no freeze ups. i don't get why all of the sudden chrome would turn on me, especially since it's still running with no problem at work on basically the same computer. who knows. as long as it works, i'm cool.

dammit! i though ditching google chrome would help; it seemed to at first. although i'm getting no more error pages, my computer is still excessively slow on proboards compared to most any other site i frequent. i have to re-boot every half hour, it seems.

I think Mr. A is right, it seems to be one of the adservers. Maybe there's something cache-related that when you reboot it loads the Vote For Us ad, but afterwards, something else?
Shooting in the dark here, but I have noticed some hangups with the ads lately, and it seems so has Mr. Atari.

That would explain why some people aren't having any problems. I've got no script and adblock running, so that stuff never loads for me.
I was searching earlier today to see if this was a proboards problem. There were a number of recent threads similar to this one, with only certain people having problems, only with proboards and only on a certain computer. It's one of those odd situations that can't be recreated to understand what's happening. One person was on XP, and when they upgraded to Win7, all the problems went away.
So, basically what I'm saying is that this is a confusing problem and I have no idea what's going on. What a great help I am.

Yeah, my only real input is that my computers tend to work when I show up here on Google Chrome or IE, haven't really had a chance to check on Firefox yet.

i installed firefox tonight. so far it's a little quicker than chrome or IE, but i have gotten a couple of error messages. but it bounced back faster.

One other thought, your signature image is an animated .gif. Those generally eat a lot of memory and can cause loading issues. Not saying that's it, but it might be worth changing it to see if that makes a difference.
