Wife and I are moving in to our new house.
We have close to 1000 dvds and...well I've never counted our books, but we have 14 full size bins of books not counting the 500-800 books actually still on the shelves at our old place.
Bookcases are bookcases and we'll go standard if we have to (we're even considering hiring someone to turn some of our actual walls into inset shelving units). But if anyone has cool/space saving/accessibility-friendly book storage ideas in mind, i'd love to hear them.
the DVDs are the real issue. Our current shelves can't survive another move. On top of that we'd like to make them more space efficient, while maybe having cabinet doors this time since we've got a 2 year old now.
Anyone come across any cool products/ideas that can store a lot of dvds (in case) in smaller than average space while still being nice from a presentation/accessibility standpoint?

Back when I was in the Navy I used to throw away all my DVD cases and I instead stored them in large DVD binders. That might be a little extreme depending on the sort of solution that you're looking for. It certainly saved space at any rate.
