Overheard early yesterday at my apartment complex front desk, without a hint of irony. A guy comes in the front door, front desk guy says, "Hey, is it raining?" Front door guy says, "No but I hear it's gonna."

Where I live in Southern NJ, the effects were minimal, we lost power for a short while but we have it back now. My brother and his wife live in Park Slope in Brooklyn and last I heard they are good too. I hope all my fellow MSTies and their families are okay.

I'm happy to report that my basement is completely dry. I thought it was going to flood for sure, but I went down there at around 11 a.m., and there wasn't a drop of water on the floor. This is amazing. I'm so happy right now.
My best wishes to everyone else who had to cope with this lousy storm.

Looks like the folks posting in this thread came out mostly OK. Does that mean the ones who are "not OK" just can't post? Best wishes to all.

We have flood warnings for Lake Michigan, and we had 20 foot waves on the Lake today.

We were without power for at least 3 days. We just got it back about an hour ago.

my parents were pretty lucky, considering the devastation. they are right on the bay in maryland, just a few miles from the beach. they got about a foot of water in their basement and some water damage, but it could have been a lot worse. my b-i-l said they just got some debris in their yard and a little flooding - they are about ten minutes away from my parents. i still haven't heard from a friend of mine in NJ, i'm hoping her power will be restored soon.

What amazes me is to have a Hurricane, let alone a superstorm, make landfall in the last days of October. And then on the Eastern Seaboard. We've had a few early October storms (Lili 2002), but never anything this late that I can remember.

Hurricane Hazel did big damage to the NC coast on October 15, 1954. Hit as a Cat 4. It did big damage to my area and continued wreaking havoc north to Toronto.

I'm still running off generator power. Storm hit uhh... Monday, I think.
The power company finally came poking around the road to assess the damage today. My road is absolutely wrecked. I realize it's a triage situation with the power, but it doesn't make it any less frustrating to have to bathe at the gym.
Also, we're hearing there may be snow next week. Was spitting snow when I was driving home from work today.
