Good or bad, we'll always have that godawful Clone Wars movie to knock around. The only Star Wars I didn't see in the theater, and it doesn't bother me one bit. Caught A New Hope during the re-release when I was in college, but the rest were during original release. I'm looking forward to it. Plan is to see it Saturday night. Hopefully all work out.

I was going to wait until the hype dies down, but then I got to thinking...
I was a part of The Lost World: Jurassic Park's opening weekend record. I was a part of Spider-Man's (twice). I was a part of Spider-Man 3's. I was a part of The Dark Knight's. I was a part of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2's. I was a part of The Avengers'. I was a part of Jurassic World's.
Call me selfish, but I kind of want to be a part of this one too, even if I am just a passive Star Wars viewer.
(and f*** Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. F*** it straight to hell)

Tonight, I went to see the movie with my visiting sister and her boyfriend. At the end of it, both of them seemed to really enjoy the movie. They next prodded me as to my opinion of the movie, which I was utterly reluctant to answer out of fear of offending or upsetting her. I ultimately answered, "It was enjoyable, but it was not satisfying." {Spoiler}Early on, I had positive feelings because the post story crawl features a Stardestroyer, recognizing the precedent of the first three films. I also thought Chewie was done very well through the movie. Throughout, the film was entertaining and it kept my attention. At the end, though, I couldn't help but feel the same level of chagrin I felt when I first watched Phantom Menace. I remarked to my sister that it didn't feel like a Star Wars movie and it never will. I further remarked that it was very likely I may never watch the movie again.
There's a part of me that feels that I am being unfair, that I was holding the film to a standard that can never be satisfied. However, after watching the movie, I am looking within and I wonder why I am so hostile towards the prequels. I really feel that this film was doing a lot of the same things that those movies were, except this time they trot out the old guard to appease a sense of nostalgia.
The one thing that stuck out at the time was a hammy acting from people playing both Rebels and Imperials; there was none of Kenneth Colley's brand of subtlety. I have to question the need for the segment with the pirates and the man-eating krakens. And as sexist as it may sound, I was puzzled by the presence of female Stormtroopers; actually, no, I'm not puzzled, I know why they're there. When exactly did the Empire become so progressive?
There was an excessive amount of nodding to the original film. The beginning of the film is spent on Tatooine, but it's not really Tatooine. The Rebels have to destroy a Death Star, but it's a Super Duper Death Star ... that falls just as easily. Where the first Death Star destroyed one planet, the new Death Star destroys five and tacks on a hefty portion of drama to boot. The planet at the beginning of the movie is littered with the rusty remains of Stardestoyers and Imperial Walkers from the first movies.
I liked the humor, but I never really laughed at anything (since everyone in the theater was doing the laughing for me). I think there was something unintentional that I may have found very funny, but I can't recall what it was and I don't think anyone else in the theater found it funny.
As far as the major spoiler that occurs near the end of the movie, I felt that I saw it coming from a mile away. To the film's credit, though, I didn't see it coming from two miles away.
I am not regretful for having seen the film, but I need to be honest with my feelings and my perspective. I am not a J.J. Abrams fan and I do not feel he has the Midas touch. My feelings about this film are the same as my feelings about his Star Trek: it was sufficiently entertaining and I don't regret seeing it, but it does not capture my imagination and it does not warrant repeat viewings.

I am tired of all the Star Wars promotion on Disney owned television. When ESPN is running lengthy segments on it I'm saying the overkill is oppressive.

Saw the new Star Wars a few days ago, personally I loved it! It was really exciting and had a near-perfect blend of both old and new. Can't wait for Episode 8!

after a lot of going back and forth I've decided I'm not going to bother. I'll see it when it comes out on DVD.

I saw it Saturday and thought it was fantastic. I'll save the details for the just finished watching thread, but I'll say it was worth heading out to the theater for it. Great fun.

I saw it the other day. It's good. The actress who plays Rey is really good. I like all of the new characters. It makes me look forward to Episode VIII.

As someone who finds Star Wars passable and inoffensive entertainment, I must say that movie was certainly passable and inoffensive.

Saw it today with my cousins and loved it! I don't go to the theater often, but this time it was fun to be with a crowd of people cheering at the best moments.

Saw the sequel today. I don't get the hate this movie is getting. I've seen some people complain about its treatment of the Jedi, but one of the biggest complaints about the prequel trilogy was that the Jedi were foolish. This movie acknowledges that. I don't want to get into spoilers. I will say that it's too long and has some tonal issues, but I thought it was a worthy sequel to the last one.

I stand by my review of Force Awakens and double down on it for this movie as well. As someone who finds Star Wars passable and inoffensive entertainment, I must say that movie was certainly passable and inoffensive. I will say however that if I were to force myself into having an opinion about Star Wars, then I'd probably say Last Jedi is probably arguably the best since Empire Strikes Back.

I will say however that if I were to force myself into having an opinion about Star Wars, then I'd probably say Last Jedi is probably arguably the best since Empire Strikes Back. I agree. I think this one will grow on a lot of fans who may not be thrilled with it now - just like Empire Strikes Back. As someone who has seen every Star Wars flick in the theater with the exception of Attack of the Clones, I personally thought it was great. Certainly not without problems, but I liked it a lot. Critics mostly seem to be praising it, but fans are actually split about down the middle. As for why - it seems it didn't fit into their personal narrative of how the story should go. I understand that's part of being a critical thinker/viewer, but I think the practice of trying to predict and read into every little detail in order to speculate about what is going to happen is ruining the movie going experience for a lot of people. Just let the cast and crew tell the story, stop trying to guess everything that's going to happen and actually watch and listen. It's OK to not always know exactly what's going to happen next. This movie makes some hard, unexpected left turns in several places, and some fans just can't deal with it. But if you pay attention to the rest of the movie, it makes wonderful sense. Eh, my two cents, anyway. I'd love to see it again. Just to be clear, Torgo, I'm talking about hard core fanboys who are completely unaware that they're not the ones in charge of writing the script. Not the casual fan such as yourself who actually knows how to critique a film
