It was 10. Our annual neighborhood block party was last night and between the Friday and Saturday drinking, I'm a legend in the neighborhood.

man, i am soooo glad it's a three day weekend. sorry to those who do not get one. i haven't had any extra time off since before i left tennessee - what little time i did have was spent packing, shipping and moving. it will probably be a little time before i can build up some decent time off, so i am going to wallow in the next 72 hours.
i really like my job at the courthouse, but the training has been grueling. more and more information is given to me every day and it's in my head somewhere; it just hasn't had time to settle. i'm finally starting to get into something of a routine with it all, but it's been tough. but i work with a great group of people, which helps a lot. actually, we lost one last week, we're going to lose another one (she's been a tremendous help to me in my training and i'm a little panicky at the thought of losing her) and my boss is taking a 5 week leave in a couple of weeks. so it's about to get even more challenging.
on another topic, my bf is a huge walking dead fan. i just got him the 5th season. so i started watching it from season 1 - i'd never watched it before. i've never really been a zombie chick - not a fan of the wet, crunchy sounds they make or watching them eat people alive. but i just finished the season finale for season 3 tonight. i'm hooked. i was going to go into TWD thread here, but i don't want to accidentally stumble across any spoilers. i'm going to spend a lot of time this weekend starting on season 4.
a few comments -
so everyone's infected whether you're bitten or scratched or not? wtf? if that is true, what's stopped people from turning into zombies all along when they die?
dale! i had a feeling it was coming, but that one hurt. he was one of my favorites. my bf said, "yeah, i wouldn't get overly attached to any of them." and i don't care, that WAS carl's fault. when dale came upon that groaning cow in the field, my first thought was - oh cool, we're about to see a zombie cow!
we're supposed to hate lori, right? because i really enjoy not liking her. i think the funniest line so far is when daryl called her olive oyl. love daryl. andrea pisses me off. kill yourself alreaady if you're going to do it! i love glen. he's awesome.
shane seemed cool until he went all nuts. maybe he was never cool. i'm not sure on that. but wow, he and rick in the field - what a scene. and rick...aside from being a hottie, it has been interesting watch his character change as he is faced with tragedy after tragedy.
and okay - w t F was that thing that rescued andrea in the woods??
anyway, it's friday, bitches! FINALLY!

Sounds like you're settling into the routine, spice, good to hear.
And welcome to the cult of The Walking Dead! You're right to stay out of the designated thread until you're caught up, but I got a kick out of your thoughts so far (though judging by your description, are you sure you didn't just finish the second season?). It seems so long ago to me now. Trust me, it gets intense.

yeah, it was the 2nd season. i haven't been paying much attention to that - we've been just watching one after another and i thought i was further ahead than i was. but i plan to put plenty of time into it over the weekend. one more thing i forgot to add - i was disappointed we didn't get to see more of zombie shane. he only got to be one for a minute or so. zombie shane would have been a BLAST.

I thought it sounded like the end of the second season - when they broadcast them on TV the seasons are split in two halves with several months in between. It can make you forget what happened in which season so just wanted to ask. And I know you want to avoid spoilers, but here is a link to a one-minute television promo for the third season that aired on AMC. Minimal spoilers, but an exciting glimpse of the things to come. If nothing else check it out after you're through season 3, the promos are worth checking out anytime because they're usually really well done. www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzR9EXaDtCsWish I had the DVDs. Must remedy that! Binge-watching is the way to roll on this kind of show.

it's been a rough afternoon. herschel got bit and lost a leg, they found those prisoners and had that hootenanny with them, then we lost t-dog and finally, lori. yikes. i mean, i didn't like lori, but i never wanted her own son to have to put her down. and this is going to screw carl up good. and where is carol?? bad day at the prison. thanks for that link, mod. my internet is still painfully slow here, but since it's only a minute, i should be able to watch it in about 20 minutes.

well, i let my inner slacker take over and i got a lot of TWD under my belt over labor day weekend. i'm ready to begin season 4 now. merle! okay, he was an as*hole, but he was entertaining, if anything. and we got to see the barest glimmer of his human side when he let michonne go. michonne, btw, is one badassMF. love her. but i never wanted to see daryl cry when merle turned which led to their final showdown together. ugh - brutal. although, zombie merle didn't seem all that different than human merle. and now andrea is gone. i'm okay with that, as she bugged me. i wanna die! i wanna die! but every time she was close to death by a walker, she got out of it. shut up about it, already! then she got all militant - i'm all for girl power, but she was just so haughty about it. then she gets snaked in by the governor at woodbury and causes a whole mess of crap to happen. and after all she went through, to die at the hands of zombie milton?? the biggest wussy on the show? that's gotta be humiliating. it's good to see rick is getting over his little breakdown. and i absolutely loved how glenn got maggie's engagement ring. glenn my be my favorite.

well, i let my inner slacker take over and i got a lot of TWD under my belt over labor day weekend. i'm ready to begin season 4 now. Excellent. Weird to think that we met Merle before Daryl, but he certainly left an impression. The handcuff scene at the end of that early episode was rough. I was happy to see him find some redemption, but it was sad to see him and Daryl square off that last time. Andrea was another early character, and the death of her sister was one of the early shocks for me on watching the show. And for someone who talked suicide so often, she was developing into a tough person. I still love that scene where she stabs the tied-up walker in the head while Milton tried to reason with it. Great scene. Technically, she committed suicide, actually making good on her statements from earlier in the season. I kind of miss her, now that I think about it. I love Rick. He'd be the guy I follow if I had to survive the zombie apocalypse. {The reasons Id follow him:}Him blowing away those two guys in the bar and his reaction to Sophia walking out of the barn are examples of hard core leadership in trying times.

well, rick is hot. that's the first reason why i'd follow him. but as great a leader that he can be, he still makes mistakes. his heart hasn't accepted the new ways of the world, so that trips him up at times. shane was all business. he was nuts, but he was effective in surviving. that ep when rick is reunited with morgan was just painful. oh, why don't you just marry andrea, mod?? no, she was an asset to the group once she learned how to shoot and kill walkers. she just annoyed me. and yeah, when her sister was killed i think that was my first big aaarhhh!!! nooooo!!! moment of the show. i liked andrea's relationship with michonne, too. i would have liked to have seen more of it. i'm not sure how i feel about season 3. at one point i said to my bf, "it's not about the zombies anymore," right when the governor sent that truck of walkers into the prison camp when he first attacked them. it felt like too many characters were being thrown in, and it was too much about wars between people, not the humans against the walkers. but i realized that with a new world after a zombie apocalypse, this kind of thing is going to happen - you'll have to fight the living as hard as the undead to stay alive. phew, i hope there never is a zombie uprising. i'd last about 3 minutes, maybe. i saw the first ep of season 4 last night - now the prison has more people, rescued from woodbury, the guv'nor is still at large and that dorky kid with the glasses died in the showers and just turned before the end credits. i loved the "storytelling" scene when carol was really teaching kids how to use a knife. carol is badass.

i forgot to add that i love the relationship between herschel and rick. herschel is awesome. he heals people, he's folksy and looks like santa claus.
last night i saw the one where rick figures out it was carol who torched karen and dave's bodies, who had been suffering from the flu that was killing people in the prison. then he kicks her out of the fold when they go on their run. carol is one of the most interesting characters; watching her evolve from a victim of domestic violence to a badasss zombie killer has been interesting. she cares about people but she's also very matter of fact and can see things more realistically than others, particularly rick.
