I've generally never been a big fan of this guy (he always seemed more star than actor--that said, "Heaven Can Wait" is a favorite film of mine), but last Summer they did a Warren Beatty Season at the BFI in London. The missus and I went and saw several of his films I'd never seen before ("Bulworth," "Lilith," "Parallax View") and really enjoyed them. I also revisted a few I'd previously seen ("Reds," "Bugsy," "McCabe and Mrs. Miller," "Heaven Can Wait"). Again, pretty good stuff. (Well, I'm not sure about that "Bugsy" performance lol)
I'm still not always a fan of Beatty's acting, but I have to say the guy has been involved in some very good films. It's also a shame he hasn't directed more. "Heaven Can Wait," "Reds" and Bulworth" were excellent, I thought.

"Parallax View" has long been a personal all-time favorite movie of mine. (It was OOP on DVD last I checked, too, which is a scandal! now THERE's a movie that ought to get the Criterion treatment.)
Beatty's a smart, talented guy, ran around with the UCLA brat pack -- Francis Ford Coppola, Scorcese, "Last Picture Show" guy whose name I can never remember (he was pals with Henry Jaglom, whose movies are so bizarre and unendurable I've watched like four of them like four times apiece). Beatty's also very political, and in an informed way; I have much the same admiration for him that I have for a guy like Matt Damon or George Clooney.

My first exposure to Beatty was "Dick Tracy". I, as a 6 year old, thought he was a totally awesome, bad ass dude in that role.

I'm watching "Lilith" now in half-hour increments on the exercise machine. (as an aside, you know you're old when you stop working out for looks or performance and start working out simply so you don't die.) It's really fascinating. Neat tidbit: I took a creative writing class taught by the guy who wrote the novel the movie was based on. He hated the movie and complained a lot about his experience with Hollywood every chance he got, but so far I love it.
And I don't typically swing this way but good lord, young Warren Beatty has got to be one of the ten best-looking men who ever lived.

He's right up there with Mitchell.

Yes, Beatty was a good-looking young man and Jean Seberg was absolutely gorgeous! It's a really interesting film.
