After watching several different films on MST3K, I was questioning all the different sounds and alarms that were around back then:
1- that strange 'Whhhooooopp' sound (that Mike called the USS Johann Worley)
2-the pogo stick sound
There's several others, but anyone ever figure when these sounds were updated in Europe? Strange sounds, man.

I wonder if it has something to do with how much more involved europe was with civil defense in world war ii than america was. since the war was actually fought on their soil, and so on. total stab in the dark, there.

And too it may simply be the sound of sirens they preferred in Europe compared to the US air raid siren. Police sirens are still to this day much different.
The "pogo stick" sound was just a computer beeping.
The Japanese "underwater" siren in Time of the Apes at the military base? Seeing as how it was dubbed.... hard to say where Sandy Frank found that sound effect to use. Could be a real Japanese alarm siren though. It could be Japan/Asia also uses a different sounding alarm sound than North America or Europe.
