Was that a Loverboy sighting? Next up is Saga followed by Aldo Nova! 1981 was a pretty good year in rock music then the rest of the 80's happened. Anyone ever visit this site? I enjoy these guys because they are so curmudgeonly in their reviews, even with bands they like. And they refuse to review a few of the bands that Phantom mentioned. And it's all good Phantom. Music is such a personal thing. We all have our good artist and guilty pleasure artist. Did I ever mention I saw Night Ranger in concert? I'm sooo proud.

i guess queen isn't for everyone. but i ferociously loved them as a kid. i hate how played out bohemian rhapsody has gotten, but i still love several of their songs.
i don't know why it kind of surprises me that you like bruce. i like him too, when i'm in the mood. do you happen to have the seeger sessions? now i do love that one.
i looked up spooky tooth - still don't think i know them, but that's a great band name.

It's that generational thing. Most people get squishy over their youthful favorites. Is that why they're called the formative years?

[/quote] that's so funny...i am the same exact way - i guess most people are, though, to some degree. i am a total music nazi. let's say we're going somewhere in your car. i get to decide what we listen to because i am the guest. and at some point you will have to keep your hands on the wheel instead of constantly trying to change what's playing. if we're going in my car, i decide what we listen to because it is MY car. and i'll put yer ass out and you'll walk if you argue. oh, i'll do it.

So, how much does actually being able to play music change your appreciation of it as a listener?
I have zip musical aptitude. I recollect decades ago watching some concert tape (Rush, maybe?) and commenting that a guitar solo was wearing out its welcome. Someone else commented that it was actually a very difficult piece. I imagine he was right, but, y'know, for me it was still getting old.

Often long jams are more fun to be in than to listen to.

How nice for you. The only reason I didn't put Loverboy on my Do Not Play list was because I figured they were in the forgotten-about-and-who-gives-a-crap file.
Loverboy, oh, the horror.

i know, i know. i'm not especially proud of it now. i just volunteered it because this is such a nurturing place where people aren't judged for past mistakes. i mean, aren't we ALL just workin' for the weekend?

Neil Young was my first, or maybe second concert, in 1973. Good start.

my sister's first concert was alice cooper. she went with three other people, and they were driving home after the concert, bombed, i'm sure, all wearing alice cooper tshirts. they got pulled over by a cop - and the guy driving pulled over on the left side of the road instead of the right. when the cop asked if they'd been to the concert, the guy said, "no sir, we were at a church dinner." i was probably 10 years old, but i made myself stay up until she finally got home so she could tell me everything. sounded purty wild.

I hope the church dinner line worked and they didn't get arrested.
