I wonder if this release is taking Shout's fall/holiday slot for MST releases... hopefully not, but exciting nonetheless. I don't think so, they generally release their fall/winter collection around November or December, and the episode collection sell very well, so I believe they'll release volume 28 this year.

Shout Factory just posted this picture on their Facebook wall. Looks like they got the Blu-rays in and are showing them off! I'm looking closely at the sticker listing the bonus features, and though I recognize what's confirmed so far, the guy who's holding them up has his finger held up over a white part with some text. Hmm, I wonder what it says there...

Thanks Troy's Dad. Did anyone pre-order from Shout? I'm hoping they ship mine early so I can get it going into Labor Day weekend.

Strange, one appears to review the blu-ray and he stated the deleted scenes are NOT separate, while the one you posted reviews the DVD and the deleted scenes appear separate.
My plan is to rip the scenes from the DVD, should they be separate, and edit together a personal extended version of the film to watch.

And now a much more in-depth review from DVDTalk.com: www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/61489/mystery-science-theater-3000-the-movie/It looks like the audio and video quality is nothing special, because it might've been sourced from an older transfer by Universal. And this review also says the the deleted scenes are seperate, but they're only in standard definition and look like they were sourced from a VHS tape. Darn, I was hoping they would've found the original negitives for these or something. But I digress, I'm just grateful that not only were they able to find and present the deleted material, but 23 freaking minutes of it! The guys at Shout truly are miracle workers, I seriously can't wait to see all these new goodies for myself.

Universal has gone a little overboard on video noise reduction with some of their recent Blu Rays of older films, (some of the same titles released on the now dead HD-DVD format actually look better by comparison) so an older master isn't always a bad thing with them.

Yeah, that's what I was planning to do too with the deleted scenes. Once you've seen the original ending... how can you go back to the released one!?

MST3K hater and human bean bag Harry Knowles wrote up his review of the blu-ray: "Most of you know that I absolutely love THIS ISLAND EARTH – without any of the MST3K silliness. Of course for basically everyone that have only ever seen this movie this way… it has essentially ruined all public screenings of the original film – as folks that love this can not seemingly resist calling out the choice lines from Mike and his cohorts. This film was introduced to me as being one of the outstanding color science fiction films of the 50’s. That said, yes, I watched this – and yeah I admit it, its funny, but if you’ve never seen the original THIS ISLAND EARTH – seek it out straight, then have fun with it with this. Allow your mind to be unpolluted and be amazed. Yes, the Metaluna Mutants do wear pants… WHY? Well you know what they say, the bigger the brain, the bigger the other head is. That’s why I assumed they wore pants, it had some strange alien genitalia… I mean, it makes a b-line at Faith Domergue for fairly obvious reasons! And I love Exeter’s tech. Plus, I’ve always suspected that Dennis Muren came from Exeter’s planet – which is why he could change film tech forever. MST3K fans will love this Blu, the making of, deleted scenes, the new Motion Picture Odyssey… it’s just all the silliness you fans love. Just, if you do see a screening of the original film, zip it up, the film can be appreciated another way." www.aintitcool.com/node/63966I should note that he appears nicer to the franchise in the review because he has a (failing) Kickstarter going at the moment, with 56 hours to go. So he has been kissing ass the past month. I'm certain that had the kickstarter not been going on, he'd either ignore the release or just say meaner things about MST3K.

I've ignored Knowles for so long that I didn't even know he hated the series. Give me a second to care...there I'm done.
The man is obnoxious and his website is a poorly written eyesore. Granted This Island Earth has its merits, but it's still fairly mediocre.

I just remembered that the MST3K Movie DVD was the first DVD I ever purchased, way back in 1998. Can't believe it has been 15 years... and that DVDs were around in 1998.
