Y'know, that's an interesting comparison: you have the patience to search the sky but not draw it, and I'm vice versa. I wonder if that comes from each of us having more raw talent in one than the other, such that there's a quicker learning curve? Did you take to the 'scope naturally?
And, yeah, spice, hopefully karma came 'round to bite that guy in the butt.

Sorry, I was busy eating dinner and it's raining here so no perigee/syzygy/supermanmoon(!) for me. There was a very lovely and extremely rare triple rainbow earlier. Yes, I said triple. I saw two and my dad pointed out the third one. Wooo! It was awesome and extremely short lived. Now what was this moon thing you were wanting to dish on? Ijon the Asano: Yeah, I kind of did take to the scope naturally. There's been a lot of times when I've looked up, pointed the telescope without looking through the finder scope, and what I was looking for would be right in the center of the lens. I remember a moment back in the late 80's when I wanted to find Jupiter and it was 4pm, a nice cloudless blue sky up above, but I knew it was near zenith. I looked at my paper chart, that's all we had back then, took a guess and found it on my second try. My best friend was with me and the only thing he said was 'Fricken (my name here.)' I admit that at my age I'm not so good at that. I tend to miss more often than not now. EDIT: Hey Spice, I would like to hear how it was for you. You may be the only one who was able to see it. I'll probably end up watching 'Ultraman' & 'Inazuman' to while away the hours.

Just back from my morning walk, and wouldn't you know we have just enough overcast to reduce it to a super bright spot 'mongst the clouds? Ah, inconstant Moon.

she can be a fickle wench. so, you're saying this guy was "fricken chicken?" who wouldn't want to be that? i was just wondering how much bigger the moon is supposed to be tonight. the last couple of nights it's been clear enough to see - well, clearly, and it looks pretty big to me. almost blinding. while i was sitting outside, thinking of how serene it was - pretty much a perfect summer night - low humidity and it was very comfortable out - all of the sudden, BOOM!!! (echo, echo, echooooo) - someone started shooting off some pretty heavy duty fireworks a few streets away. so much for serenity. it's cloudy out now, and there's a 40% chance of storms tonight, so i'm hoping that won't interfere. but even if it does, i feel like i've already gotten a pretty good preview. yeah, the camera on my phone isn't that great, but it's the only camera i have at the moment. for all you know this could be a motorcycle headlight or something. but i swear it's the moon. a triple rainbow, chicken? score!

That Gypsy Moon song is in my top 5 of favorite MST3K songs. I pretty much had what Asano had, I nice bright cloudy spot unfortunately without the Larry Niven part. I stood up until about 1:30am, that's approximately when perigee/syzygy occurred but no luck with the cloud cover. Thanks Spice. That picture is better than what my cell phone camera would capture at night. At least it sorta looks like the moon. I also have one of those BOOM! neighbors. Must be a relative of your neighbor. Actually you did watch on the correct night for the moonrise. Perigee/Syzygy happened at 1:30am Hawai'i time, which was 7:30am Sunday morning your time. So on the continent watching the moon set would have been the best. And you can watch tonight's moon rise. Even though perigee and the full moon has passed tonight's moon will pretty much look the same. I read a post on my FB page from Space.com of someone who was sorry that they forgot their binoculars last night. Umm, moon, full, bright, much light, burn eyeballs out....ouch.... Someone needs to teach these people that more light through magnification does not equal better viewing.

Alikazam, alikazoom, now I make your wish come true! Jimeny? Jimeny? Something's gone wrong. I'll try it again. Please, please, please get this right. Alikazam! Alikazoom! This time make her wish come true. See, a little begging always works. Nice Spice! Hey? That...oh, you know. I may have a shot to see it tonight. It's pretty clear right now.

Well, I just watched that movie, and I hope the Moon is less disappointing. But as socked in as I am, I doubt it.
My skunks are out playing, though. Did I forget to introduce you guys?

that's code for something, right? otherwise, i've met enough skunks in this life.
around two this morning i woke up because it felt like i had forgotten to turn a lamp off somewhere - but it was the moon! shining right into my window. that never happens. so cool. and if i have to be totally honest, a little irritating after a while. i had to burrow to get back to darkness.

I think most Disney movies disappoint in the long run, except for Dumbo. The only problem with Dumbo is every time I watch the pink elephants sequence I get a Bob Clampett Warner Brothers flashback: "The rabbits are coming hooray hooray..." Wait, did Asano say he had skunks? Do tell, dooooo tell!I have that blasting full moon problem so I not only have curtains but I put up blinders under it. Of course my room window does face east, so that other bright day time object is a major problem in the early mornings. Guess what? I saw the rising moon last night. It stayed clear long enough for me to get some photographs. I'll share my favorite shots with 'yall: It's trying, it's trying. Oh look! There it is! Clouds then came in so I waited about 10 minutes then: Okay, not quite yet. But I loved the lighted up clouds. We have a clearing! And we have beauty personified.

wow, that last shot is gorgeous. it could have come right out of a silent film. i know, i loved how the moon made the clouds around it a silvery blue. they look especially cool in the third pic. as i was looking at it last night on my front steps, i couldn't understand how i could be the only person on my street taking it in.

And we have beauty personified. Chicken, what's your dream? Heh, anyway I'd heard about the supermoon, but unfortunately I couldn't really see it due to some overcast from where I was at. Bummer, but oh well.
