Goose Island 312 Urban Wheat Ale. Goose Island is a local micro brewery and this is pretty good. It is unfiltered, so there may be some sediment in the bottle. You're supposed to drink it out of a tall glass. Haven't tried many of these, Goose Island has a lot of varieties.

Well if you're really a beer aficionado you should always drink from a glass. I'm not real big on wheat beer though.

Well if you're really a beer aficionado you should always drink from a glass. I'm not real big on wheat beer though. That's true, and I should have mentioned it before, which is my bad. I just found it funny that Goose Island told you on the bottle that you should drink it from a glass. And wheat beer is an acquired taste. It's not for everyone.

If I drink any old beer (mostly made from barley, I guess) every day, I get a gluten reaction. I just re-learned that at the lake house, I was all achey and bloated by the end of the week, just from a beer or two a day. And it was Heineken! Well, and some Sam Adams. I'm usually okay if I have a couple of beers one day and then no beer for a while... I don't seem to get a reaction. But wheat beer? Hoo-boy! That stuff kills me. Aren't you all delighted to know that?

They do have gluten free beers. I'm going to get a list and post them, just for Spackle.

I don't mind wheat beers, but the only one I really remember drinking any amount of was from Boulevard. Not bad. I'm on vacation, so one shelf of my fridge is stocked with cans of Schmidt. Yes, the beer known as "animal beer," due to the various depictions of wildlife on the cans. This particular 30-pack seems to be comprised entirely of trout cans, but others have deer, pheasant, bears and other game animals. As cheap as this stuff is (my purchase came out to 56 cents per can), it's not common at all around here. I've gotten a pack at a liquor store about a half-hour from here every vacation for years now, not even sure why anymore. I've forgotten for some reason. On a side note, this beer falls into the category of what we around here call "yard beers." This is the kind of beer you drink while doing stuff like mowing the lawn or checking the crops. And no, it's not great. But you usually get an interesting reaction from others who see you drink it

wheat beer: spackle's kryptonite. You said it! My reaction is kind of weird to me, since I used to guzzle beer like it was going out of style..... though not usually from wildlife-bedecked cans. I know about gluten-free beers, but I've heard they're so bad they're not worth trying, and I bet they're pretty expensive, as is all GF stuff. Since I want to drink less anyway, I'd rather have some good beer once in a while than bad expensive beer all the time. Ah, but I miss the old days!

Red Dog beer. I remember drinking this in the early 90's but I couldn't find it for a long time after that. It's from the Miller Brewing Co and is 5% alcohol. It's pretty good. I love finding the 30 pack on sale at a liquor store.

While searching for Trippel, I was scanning the shelves and apparently there's an oatmeal beer. Didn't catch the brand, but not going to try.

that's taking it a little far. but it would be a hoot to see the puritan guy on the oatmeal box all sloshed.
i used to like moosehead beer. and i remember red dog beer; i think a former roommate and i drank quite a bit of that at one time. it was around my george killians phase. i haven't had it in years. blue moon is pretty good, i think, though i prefer it on draft.
mod, your story reminds me of olympia beer. i'm sure your brand is much better, and i appreciate the story if only for spackle's usage of the phrase wildlife-bedecked. olympia is truly awful. but my roommate i referred to above once told me that he had a party and it was byob, and this guy brought olympia. he was the only one who would drink it, too. there was one can left at the end of the night, and my roommate put it on a shelf as a sort of tribute to that guy, where it remained for years. when he moved, he gave it to me because i was by then dating that guy. i kept it for years too, this sh*tty unopened beer on a shelf. i finally threw it out several years ago. i think if i hadn't, it probably would have eventually imploded.

Thanks for posting that, cf! I think it's worth a trip to the groovy beer store to look for some of them. And don't dis the oatmeal! I used to drink an oatmeal stout that I quite liked. This guy quite liked it, too.
