If you want a really intense movie, check out Yellowbrickroad. It's the story of a group of people investigating the disappearance of a whole town in 1940. Very creepy and atmospheric.

Been cranking out a few deep cuts the past few days. Watched Sleepaway Camp, Incredible Melting Man (un-riffed!), and House II: The Second Story. Also watched some Phantasm, Day of the Dead, Ghostbusters II, and Poltergeist (all mainstays).

Planning to watch The Howling 2 with my girlfriend. We are both horror nerds and we can appreciate how awesomely bad it is. =P I might introduce her to Night of The Seagulls too since we have watched the rest of the Blind Dead series.

The Crying Dead. A paranormal reality show film crew breaks into an abandoned asylum to film an episode of their show after they are told they can't be in there for the night. One by one they disappear as the ghosts of the patients come back. It's pretty creepy, especially the beginning where they show some "treatment" on one of the patients. Recommended.
The Conjuring. Ed and Lorraine Warren are world famous demonologists. This movie is based on one of their cases. A family moves into a farmhouse and an evil spirit is already there. Very spooky and highly recommended.

"Masque of the Red Death" (at the BFI in London). Good script by Charles "Twilight Zone" Beaumont, beautiful cinematography from a young Nic Roeg. (Also Hazel Court is stunning! Why Vincent Price's Prince Prospero wasn't all over her is a mystery to me.) Roger Corman made a lot of bad (but fun) movies, but this was really pretty good and a lot of fun to see on the big screen....They also showed two short films, an 80s Czech version of "Pit and the Pendulum" (which was okay), and a 50s animated version of "Tell Tale Heart" narrated by James Mason (which was excellent)....Also the BFI had one of Christopher Lee's Dracula costumes on display which was kind of neat.
"Halloween" (the original, of course). So simple but so incredibly effective. Carpenter's amazing score drives the whole thing and all those shots of Michael standing quietly in the darkness just ratchets up the tension. An absolute horror classic.

I just watched Rabid. Very effective and creepy. I'm a fan of 70's horror, and this one was right up my alley.

Psychomania. British film about a biker gang called "The Living Dead". Their leader, Tom wants to kill himself and come back from the dead and be invincible. He does and he convinces the rest of the gang to go along with it. So they all kill themselves, and then go on being rebels; tearing up the town and stuff. Eh, it's okay, but I mean if you're coming back from the dead, you should really be bad ass evil, you know?

That was a weird movie. I didn't understand the fascination with frogs. And you're right, they weren't evil with a capital E. They kind of just kept on doing what they did when they were alive. They weren't even all that badass when they were alive. As biker gangs go, I think the Hellcats could have taken them.

I didn't get the frog thing either. Are frogs normally associated with evil? I would have loved to see Ross Hagen take on the gang. The Bates Haunting. Agnes Rickover goes to the Bates Motel and Haunted Hayride for Halloween. Her friend, Lilly, works there. Lilly is killed by a fire breathing dragon, in front of Agnes, who freaks out. A year later, Agnes gets a job at the Hay Ride to find out what really happened to Lilly Once she starts working there, other employees start to disappear. Recommended.

Chain Letter. Cheesy movie but one of my guilty pleasures. A maniac forwards a chain letter using technology to high school students. When they don't pass it on, he kills them. Brad Dourif plays a teacher, who is really creepy. Dourif is good in pretty much every movie he's in.

A Halloween without Evil Dead II is a Halloween not worth celebrating.
Last year I went nuts with Universal horror, so this year I decided to jump a few decades and play with some of the 70's and 80's horror icons, so I've been watching random flicks with Freddy, Jason, Michael and Leatherface.
Probably the big horror purchase I made this month was the complete Chucky collection on blu-ray, since Chucky is my homie and MGM and Universal actually took the time to make a deal for a complete collection. I knew I had to support it. Extras are all the same things we've seen on DVD, whivh is disappointing since Bride deserves a lot better and 2 and 3 are bare bones. Hadn't seen the new Curse of Chucky before I picked it up, but wasn't really worried about it. Even if it sucked, I still had a set with four movies I loved on it. Curse wa okay, but the weakest of the series (though I won't debate any argument that claims it's better than Seed). It had a nice atmosphere, but there honestly wasn't much of a story other than Chucky being back for the hell of it. Added background to the original film made no sense either.
That's about it, I guess. But it's been a fun month.

It's that time again! Last Saturday the family and I set up the TV by the fire pit to kick off the season. We all love Halloween and horror films, so this was a fun way to enjoy the cool weather and foliage at the same time. We watched large portions of The Fog, Creepshow, Halloween II, and Terror in the Aisles. I say portions because no one could agree on one film and we wanted to cram in as much fun as we could, so we watched the best parts of these flicks we all know by heart. It was a great time, but by then end I was frozen.
Terror in the Aisles is a film I never hear mentioned, and maybe because few have heard of it. I find it to be a very satisfying sampling of some of the best horror films in recent time, and great for Halloween parties. Essentially a clip movie, it's hosted by Donald Pleasance and Nancy Allen, and is bound to give everyone a good jolt.
I've also watched a few other favorites as time permitted: Dawn of the Dead, Slugs, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Event Horizon, and The Exorcist III. and it's only October 9th!

i'm not a big fan of horror movies - i'm too much of a wimp. i did just happen to catch the nightmare before christmas, which i am not sure if that counts, but in my book it does (i know all the words to all the songs:P). i am currently watching the 1925 version of phantom of the opera - and after that, i am going to watch from beginning to end, nosferatu ('25). i've never done that. and 'ol nosferatu (imo) is still one of the creepiest figures in horror movie, ever. although, i think he does look a little goofy here.

This Saturday, I'm showing a few friends Shadow of the Vampire, since it's on Netflix instant now. Not necessarily a scary movie, but undoubtedly one of the sharpest, most clever horror films ever made.

Bram Stoker's Dracula for the scariest thing to ever grace the screen: Keanu Reeves attempting a British accent.
More chills up my spine than any other film in here.
