Just got back a couple hours ago from MA. Not going to the Boston show tonight, but I figure, they're close, so anyone going to that show, if they want to throw their comments or pics in on this thread, go ahead on. (Unless you want to start your own thread).
Went to the Northampton show, again with my "crazy mom". We stayed overnight a couple miles down the road in Holyoke.
We walked around Northampton all day before the show. It's a cute, quaint little town, but not enough little shops to browse around in. Plenty of restaurants to suit all tastes. They were all very crowded when we wanted to eat, so we ended up eating at Fitzwilly's, which was roomy, so they had tables available with no wait.
A couple hours before the show, we were tired from walking so sat down on a park bench that was kind of on the side of the theater. While we sat, who should I notice piling out of a car but Joel, Trace, Frank and Gruber. But - I had left my camera back at the hotel room. AAaaaAAArrRRRgghh! My mom had hers and took a quick pic, and we waved to them, we didn't bug them or approach them or anything. Gruber waved back. It was getting a little dark, so her picture didn't come out. A little later I went back to where my car was parked to get the shirt I wanted the Titans to sign. (A Torgo's Pizza shirt I got from cmselby's Café Press thingee). While walking I saw Joel standing on the corner using his cell, I said "Joel!" he said, "Hey." Again, didn't want to bug him while they were all just walking around chilling before the show. (Again, a camera would've been NICE, grrr). While we were waiting in line a little later, Mary Jo and RAD walked by on their way somewhere.
First ones in the door! The show was funny, they did a good job, as usual. What I heard of it, anyway. The movie sound wasn't great and I couldn't really understand what the hell they were saying. The movie was "Astral Factor" and when the guy did his astral factoring thing, the sound got really loud and drowned out what the Titans were saying. So, unfortunately, I didn't catch everything.
Loved the Frank short by Trace in the preshow, (he's alive!) and his little commercial for his book "Silly Rhymes for Belligerent Children" (?that is the title right?). And Gruber got silly doing some interpretive dance to some songs beforehand. Mary Jo did some spot on impressions of obscure things like a background character on The West Wing, and some secondary character confronting Tippi Hedron in The Birds, heh. And poor Joel got bombarded with the same questions he gets asked ad nauseum, though I guess there are like 1 or 2 people in the MST3K universe who haven't heard the answers to "what's your favorite episode" and "why did you leave the show". *eye roll*.
I don't really remember any stand out lines as I was straining to hear, so anyone else who went, I hope you post on here and refresh my memory. They didn't have any DVD's to sell after the show, so I guess I'll have to buy this on their website, maybe some of the jokes were the same. Josh is still MIA, Gruber filling in, I certainly hope the guy is OK!
The meet and greet was short and sweet, everyone going pretty quickly in line, just some handshakes and smiles and "good jobs" and some pics and autographs, no one really holding anything up and taking too much of their time. The Titans liked the Torgo's Pizza shirt I had for them to sign, they thought it was cool. Mary Jo was musing on whether or not perhaps there really IS a Torgo's Pizza out there somewhere, and if there is, people just go to it thinking it's just another pizza joint, and not really knowing the joke. I said there probably was. Ah, good times. Wish I'd had my effing CAMERA!! (I wanted to pan on them and have them all say, "we've got movie sign!").
But, alas. Kind of bittersweet since this is one of their last shows. At least for the foreseeable future. I'll have to buy up the few eps of theirs I don't have (and maybe Trace's book).
Edit: Oops, this one's not available yet. I hope they recorded this at one of their shows and release it at some point soon.
