Am I the only one watching this?
Because it's glorious. Patently wonderful. Makes me wish I was around for the first time this show ran. Granted, it has a few too many commercials for my taste, but I haven't been watching much of commercial TV in a while, so that could just be par for the course now.

I loved it. Well written. Didn't pull any punches. Intelligent. The only reason it's on is that it is being produced by the same guy who does Family Guy.
I expect to here that it's been canceled pretty soon. Intelligent shows rarely last on network TV.

Would be a pity. Cosmos seems to be a better fit on another, less stupid channel. Seems like it'd be right up PBS's alley.
From what I've read, though, is that we're at least getting thirteen episodes out of this thing.

Just caught up on this today, and it's pretty great. Everyone should be made to watch it, if only to be humbled.

Tonight's episode was great. I'm glad they're not pulling any punches on "controversial" topics.
I wish there weren't so many dang commercials. I also wish that networks would run stuff like this on their own recognizance, instead of having Peter Griffin have to push it through.

Well since The History Channel parts 1 & 2, The Science Channel, A&E, Discovery, National Geographic Channel, The Military Channel, Syfy, The Learning Channel etc. etc. etc. no longer show anything remotely resembling science programming...(Oh look! A Ghost! It couldn't possibly be an infrared image of an insect or dust now could it? And look at that image of Bigfoot! So, it's blurry. I tell you it's Bigfoot! And how could we have built the pyramids? It has to be ancient non-existent aliens!) Sorry, I got bitter there. I'm just glad to see a science program somewhere other than Nasa TV and PBS. The second episode hasn't shown here yet but if it's anything like the first one it should be, and Don Quixote says it was, great.
And I am old enough to remember watching the original with Carl Sagan. I was 12 years old and enthralled by it.

I haven't seen the original Cosmos but I've been watching this series too, and so far it is indeed amazing. It's reminding me how much I love science and how I wanted to be a scientist when I grew up, though of course that ship has long sailed.

I've been really digging this show so far- I found the stuff about evolution in last night's episode to be particularly mind-blowing.

The stuff on the show is really basic. My son watched the 2nd show with me and he told me that he knew just about everything shown by the time he was in 4th grade. Of course, we've always been science buffs.
The show is on the network its on on purpose. If it were on a network like PBS it would be preaching to the choir. It's trying to reach people who think science is boring and stupid. People who think that theories based on 200 years of studying and experiments by thousands of scientists are the same as a wild guess. There is a much higher percent of people who are scientifically illiterate who watch this channel than on a channel like PBS or even the discovery channel. (Their news division is much, much worse for scientific illiteracy.)

This'll be better than the original...

So, this week was all about comets, how we misinterpreted them for the vast majority of our existence, and how the history of the theoretical discovery of gravity played out.
Felt a little more like history than science to me, but I'm happy either way. Would've liked to hear more about that projected galactic collision, though.

Yeah, last nights episode was more about how our perceptions of our place in the universe changed with the findings of Isaac Newton and Edmond Halley. I believe the Andromeda Galaxy/Milky Way collision/pairing/love fest will be dealt with in next weeks Einstein episode.
I never mentioned that I rather enjoyed the first part of last weeks episode on artificial evolution. I could just see a lot of 'natural foods' people getting quite upset when they realized that, well, nothing we eat is really in it's original 'natural' state. Somewhere along the way we of the human race tampered with our food sources, be it fruit or vegetable or grain, so that everything we eat has been genetically modified at some point in time.

I thought last night's was the weakest thus far, but still entertaining. I agree it was heavier on the history than science (and generally that's right in line with my tastes), but not when it comes to this show. Anyway, I'm still on board and find it refreshing.

I had missed the episode both tonight (mostly) and last night, so I managed to find it here: www.cosmosontv.com/watch/211631683935Now all can enjoy! Also, thoughts on this week's episode? Thought it was worlds better than last week's. The stuff is a little basic in parts, but it's trying to reach a broad audience, so I can't fault them for that. All the black hole stuff was neat, as was the explanation of the speed of light.
