I'm so happy I can hardly contain myself!
As a Mario fan and a Rifftrax fan I'll be watching this tonight.

I'm disappointed. Rifftrax held a vote to see what the next trax would be, and when I voted, the 1998 Godzilla was in the lead by 300 votes!
I'm wondering if poll was even meant for this, especially since they said in the poll that one would be released on Friday and I saw it on Wednesday. I'm sure it takes more than a day to make and process a riff.

I imagine if they were to tackle the 98 Godzilla movie they'd wait until May to tie it in with the upcoming film. I seem to recall them doing that several times before. Plus they probably never would have gotten theat movie for VOD. Even if Sony relented (even after not letting them release the Starship Troopers live show) chances are Toho would step in for their use of the Godzilla name. They'd most likely go commentary only for that one.
But if Godzilla off the menu for the time being, this was a delightful surprise. I watched it this afternoon and I can honestly say I enjoyed it. Initially it gets off on the wrong foot with too many variations of saying "It's nothing like the game!" Yeah, not funny. If I wanted comments like that I'd surf the movie's message board on IMDB.
But once we get to Dino City, they rev it up. They stop pointing out the loose adaptation of the game at hand and start mixing in references to the games and play along with it. Someone on the staff must be an avid Nintendo nerd, because I was genuinely impressed at the amount of references they made. From Mario Kart, Mario Party, and Waluigi to lesser known bombs like Mario Paint, Mario is Missing, and even the Virtual Boy (oh yes, I laughed long and hard at their knock on the Virtual Boy).
If you grew up a gamer, and/or understand the brilliance of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, this is the Rifftrax for you. It's not a homerun, but a solid base hit for a certain portion of the fanbase.

Well, the MST3K staff *was* hooked on the original SMB during the Season 1 hiatus, and Mike *is* known for his skills at Doom.....

I'm so glad they didn't go with fake-Godzilla. That's a bad movie, to be sure, but in that usual crap-Hollywood-blockbuster way. It's not really any worse than, say, a Fantastic Four movie. Super Mario Bros., though, is bad as few other films are bad. It might be the most inept mess of a bid-budget film with name actors that I've ever seen.
