Sure, why not? Rifftrax is good. Cinematic Titanic is good. Joel is awesome. No reason this bad boy can't start back up again.
I'd like to see a female host.

We do know from what Pearl said in #801 that Dr. F went right back to his old ways after growing up again. If NASA could have a backup for Skylab, there has to be another S.O.L lying around the Gizmonic Institute?

I am the Donald! I am the deal maker! Pardon me, I'm off the resolve this whole Russia Ukraine business....
On an unrelated note, this post made me a Tibby! I'd like to thank the Academy, but as a fast-rotating turtle I'm much too nauseous....

Whoever they might pick to be the new guy, I'd personally like to see them be a "guardian" towards the bots; a bit more involved with them than Mike was but not quite the father figure that Joel was either. Could be a good middle ground IMO.

I liked a lot how Joel was the Father figure and instead of trying to replicate that, they made Mike more of an older/younger/naive? brother. I agree that a new host with another different relationship would be cool.
Maybe, as you say, something in the middle--maybe the bots have all been in deep storage (yeah I know, they showed them back on earth with Mike and the end of the show), and the new guy has actually brought them out of storage and repaired them. So, he is more of a controlling figure, and yet he is still the new guy.
I think the main thing is that they should play off of the new actor/writer's strengths, which is what they did (successfully) with both Joel and Mike.

I like the idea of a reboot with new cast and writers better than the original cast coming back. Trying to recreate MST3k with the same writers and actors seems like the superstar athlete coming out of retirement. Even if they play well, their always going to be compared to when they were at their peak. Individually the brains haven't lost it but there are now two teams spread out all over the place and they're never going to get back together full time. If some of the old writers want to contribute, great. Mix the old and new.
If you have a good concept you can redo it. Trying to make it exactly the same won't work. The concept is flexible enough to change with the times without changing so much that it is unrecognizable. Star Trek was a show of the 60's. The reboot The Next Generation with a new cast was a show for the 90's. Now they have new movies with another new cast. Why can't MST3k do the same thing?
If Jim is smart he'll go for it. If the new MST3k is any good the sales of the old MST3k will go up. I'm waiting for the thread Whose the Best Host: Joel, Mike or ?.

Click that gear button in the upper-right corner of the post and then "Delete Post" in the drop-down menu.
Also, it would be interesting to see them film the show in HD widescreen. I think it looked good for the shadowrama parts in The Movie and could work well with any widescreen movies they might riff on. And with the host segments, the wider aspect ratio could give them some more space on the SOL bridge countertop and they wouldn't have to crowd in as much.

Really hope this is true, especially right after the sad end to Cinematic Titanic. More Joel and MST3k? However he mixes it together, I'll drink to that!

I'd like to point out, Joel posted behind-the-scenes photos of the photoshoot for the Wired article on Feb 28 to his Twitter, to give you an idea of roughly when the interview took place.
I'm intrigued by the "this Spring" part of the tease. Its Spring now. Spring goes from Mid-March to Mid-June. So we're 1/3rd of the way through Spring. So Joel hopes to get the show going in some form WITHIN the next 2 months. Which means the gears have hypothetically been in motion for awhile. Which would explain the planned ending of Cinematic Titanic at the end of December to focus on a reboot.
Fingers crossed.

As for a new host, I'd like to cast my vote for the lovely Beez McKeever! Perhaps a re-boot of Steffi the babysitter? Hmm?

Does Joel have kids? There's an idea. Son of MST3K.

I always thought MST3K should revive every version of the show there ever was. In my mind, there are three separate MST3Ks: KTMA, The Cable series, and the Movie. I liken them to DC comics before Crisis on Infinite Earths; with their Golden-Age continuity being Earth-2 and the mainstream then-current continuity being Earth-1, as well as countless other Earths. An ideal situation for me would go like this: Revive the KTMA show: Joel hosts with Trace and Josh. Even shooting it on era-appropriate videotape (like the film No, did any of you guys see that? Damn good movie). The first objective of this show would be to redo the KTMA movies. Maybe in the fiction of the show that Joel has been on the satellite this whole time and the mads have been sending him movies on a weekly basis, but they've run out of movies and have to start over from the beginning, recycling through the KTMA movie selections and eventually go onto new-to-MST3K movies. This would also be a logical way to release the old KTMA shows as extras with the newly-created content. This was based on Joel saying the KTMA movies needed to be "redone" in his reddit AMA. Revive the Cable Series with a new cast, as described here. Keep all the elements of MST3K but feature an entirely new cast. The continuity of the old series can be respected but doesn't have to be a big part of this show. A Gizmonics worker discovers Deep 13, finding the old files of Dr. Forrester and decides to pick up his experiments where he'd apparently left off. Revive the movie: early on when they were making the MST3K movie, it was hoped that they'd get the chance to make an MST3K movie once a year or so. This would start with the first sequel. The movies would be established as a separate continuity from the series with Mike and the bots (trading out Trace for Bill just to keep the functional Rifftrax crew together) still on the satellite. Trace would play Forrester, and Frank could be reintroduced as Dr. Forrester's sidekick. The focus would be on bigger-budgeted but still-cheesy and dated sci-fi blockbuster type movies. Ideally they'd all share behind-the-scenes crew, so that all the different flavors are still strong and in the same family. I know a lot of this is pie-in-the-sky fanboy stuff (especially the concept of a KTMA reboot... is Joel even interested in being on camera these days?), but man would it be fun...

Here's some more info about Joel's revival plans from someone in an MST3K Facebook group, which were recently mentioned at IndyPopCon:
Sounds good to me so far, can't wait to hear more about this. Also I would be all over a Kickstarter if they were to make one!
