Cool, good to hear it's at least in the planning stages.

Here's some more info about Joel's revival plans from someone in an MST3K Facebook group, which were recently mentioned at IndyPopCon: I can live with that -- they had multiple handlers during the first run after all. How is Mallon involved? Doesn't he have control over the show? It seems that neither Joel nor Trace particularly liked working with him.

I think the topic of the Bots in the reboot is a great example of "damned if you do, damned if you don't". I always thought it would be great to see new robots designed and conceptualized by Joel so knowing the plan is to bring back Servo and Crow with yet other performers disappoints me.
On the other hand, they are basically the faces of MST3k so not having them in a revival series is simply not an option.

I think it would be cool if Joel made a new bot for the show while still keeping the old bots around. I've wondered what it would be like if the Mads had their own bot for themselves, that's something I'd like to see.

Pretty exciting news. Maybe the new guy could hit one of the buttons in the new SOL bridge and accidentally contact Joel. He could provide the guy with instructions to build his own Crow, Servo, and Gypsy (or new bots?) act as the occasional mentor and offer sage advice when needed.

One more idea. Let companies pay to put commercials in the show. But, BB gets to riff on the commercials. They promise not to be too mean to the product. People would actually watch the commercials.

"Bite 'em, it's fun!" would make a good tagline for that cereal. I guess this confirms what I shared a few posts back, I'm curious to see what this crowd sourcing campaign will be like.

People would actually watch the commercials. this is a great idea - its also exactly what comedian Bill Burr does during his podcast. he is allowed to say pretty much anything he wants - right up to making fun of who wrote the ads and the result is more comedy . hilarious advertisements and knowing the companies buying ad space have a good sense of humor leaves listeners more inclined to give their product a try. its proven to work on the podcasts, it could be new territory for TV and another way to add some new angles to an MST3K reboot. either way this is awesome news.

I think I would prefer there not be a connection between the advertising and the show, although it could end up being funny I guess. I hate commercials though and if they were being riffed I'd be tempted to watch them, then feel like I'd been forced....

Diffuser.fm posted an interview with Mike, Bill and Kevin and they were asked about Joel's plans. They didn't sound interested, as you'd expect. Kevin even made a 'Return to Gilligan's Island' reference. Ouch. diffuser.fm/rifftrax-interview/

What does he mean by "owners"? Does he mean both Joel and Jim?

Would it be too much to hope for some sort of open audition process, if they're looking for new performers and writers? People could submit videos of their riffing and/or puppetry skills.

What does he mean by "owners"? Does he mean both Joel and Jim? Jim Mallon owns the rights to the show.
