I just came across this news. What I read didn't say much so I figured I'd drop by and see if there's anything new.
So, anything new?
I'd be interested just for spits and giggles. Who knows, it might turn out ok. Then again, it might not but I'd give it a try at the least.

I don't know why I waited so long to read this thread. I'm not sure how anyone could copyright "riffing." MST wasn't the first show to feature it. There was Fractured Flickers back in the sixties that riffed silent films. I used to offer the discs on my site but I think they are commercially available these days. Certainly no MST but still holds up reasonably well.

There was also "It Came From Hollywood" released in 1982, which had Dan Ackroyd, Gilda Radner, John Candy, and Cheech and Chong riffing on clips from many of the same movies MST did later. Sadly, it's seemingly stuck in the same rights hell as some MST episodes.

The future of MST3K, hmmmmm.... I know this tweet was posted elsewhere but with the recent going-onings (MST3K shows on RiffTrax, Best Brains name change, etc), I feel like this thread might become relevant again soon.

Right now I'm neutral about the reboot. I'm waiting until I it actually comes out and I can read reviews by other MSTies.

I may follow along with the AMA. Not sure what I'd ask for it that won't be asked by everyone else, though.

I just had a nightmare that the reboot turned out badly. It used special effects instead of practical effects!
I definitely plan to participate in the AMA. I have been writing down questions for months. Has anyone here done them before? How does it work?

I've not really participated in them, but I *think* you just post a comment to the Reddit conversation. I sort of posted to Bill Cipher's AMA on Reddit (I'm a big Gravity Falls fan, and Cipher's one of the only characters who can realistically comment on the show from both a real-world and in-world perspective. Apparently, not even the all-seeing eye of Bill Cipher can tell that Cinnamon Toast Crunch has loads of cinnamony swirls to help bring the flavor.)

Somebody else jumped the gun, Shout Factory! Just got this email: Big news for TV fans: Mystery Science Theater 3000 creator Joel Hodgson has announced a crowdfunding campaign to try and revive the popular show. As you may remember, MST3K was one of the most beloved cult classic TV series of the '90s. It featured a man and two wisecracking robots watching--and making fun of--cheesy movies. Now it could return with brand-new episodes, but Joel needs your help to make it happen. Head over to www.bringbackmst3k.com to learn more about what you can do to help introduce MST3K to a new generation. #BringBackMST3K

Looks like there's some confusion with the announcement.
This is very cool, but I'm not a fan of crowdfunding stuff like this. It's too bad that's the way it has to go to make it happen, but it is what it is. It may end up providing fans with some cool rewards and stuff, though. Looking forward to the actual, official announcement.

Makes me wonder if it will be a direct-to-DVD series with Shout handling distribution and the Kickstarter campaign will dictate a base number of episodes with additional episodes or harder to obtain movies or guest spots or improved sets as stretch goals.
