That. Was. HORRIBLE! I couldn't even watch the whole thing. Why bother having the lyrics telling you how to do the Time Warp, and then NOT DO THE TIME WARP? What the hell dance was that? Laverne Cox sucked as Frank. Columbia was a mess - just terrible. So blah. What, was she sucking on drug-laced lollipops? That's nice kids. I didn't like any of them. It was sad to see Tim Curry (I had only recently found out he'd had a stroke). And who was that stupid woman in the room with him? And they had the castle look like an abandoned theater. And they sucked. Half-assed lip-syncing. And they sucked.
I didn't watch all of it, because, well, they sucked.
Suckfest of suckiness.
I didn't like it, is what I'm saying.

AarrRRRGGGHH! I stupidly watched the whole thing of Dirty Dancing. Sorry, no Swayze, no likeee. The cast was so BLAND. They were just talking, not acting. The dance sequences weren't all that great. Lisa looked younger than Baby. They had to add all that padding of the drama with the parents and expanded Lisa's part for no good reason. It couldn't decide if it were a musical or not, they just threw in songs. Some were part of the music they were dancing to, then sometimes the characters would just sing. Dumbness. No chemistry whatsoever between the leads. No personality from the actress they picked for Baby. Just, blech. P.S.: I didn't like Hairspray, either. I don't know why I keep watching these things, they continually disappoint.

I thought the live Grease was pretty good: did a lot of clever stuff with the camera that impressed me a lot for a live production.
Liked The Wiz, too.

Now I want to see that Dirty Dancing remake; based on what I've heard it sounds like a trainwreck!

^^^^Oh, it was, it was. I watched some snippets from the original on Youtube and almost every recent comment was about how people were watching those to get the horror of the remake out of their minds.

I got about 3 minutes in to A Christmas Story: Live! and then, I just couldn't do any more.

I was watching football and switched over a few times during commercials. It looked dreadful.

Refused to watch it on account of their advertising A Christmas Story as "The most beloved holiday film of all time."
HAHAHAHAHAHA no. Just for that I'm watching It's a Wonderful Life tonight instead.

It's a Wonderful Life: Live! The Musical!
Has it been done? If not, I'm surprised. George Bailey sings, "Merry Christmas, movie house!" the song!

They should do an extended full version of the Simpsons' musical of Streetcar Named Desire next.

I'd forgotten on Easter that they were going to do Jesus Christ Superstar. So, I watched it on On Demand. Am I a glutton for punishment? Sure, apparently.
The acting and singing were good. The production was good overall. Why I watched it, though, I don't know because I never really liked the songs in this one. It sounds like they are making it up as they go, and the whole thing kind of meanders into nothingness. I know they are doing it from a view that everyone knows the story, but, it just kind of...
Good job for what it was, though. The only song I really like from this is the title song.
I like this version better than what was done on the recent one:

Well, I keep rubbing salt into that wound. I watched "Rent!". The production and performances were fine, but, once again: the songs sucked big time. I guess when this thing first came out it was original and all, but, as with some of the others I've mentioned on here, the songs just sounded like they were rambling on and going nowhere and making it up on the spot.
I'm glad I never saw this live.

Speaking of Peter Pan...well, we haven't been speaking of it for a while, but anyway - Go on YouTube and look up: "Peter Pan Gone Wrong." It's a stage version they put on the BBC a few years ago. It's pretty funny. Mostly the beginning is the best part. Some parts are dumb and some parts drag, but overall, pretty good. It's an acting company that puts on versions of plays that go, well, wrong; meant to be a goof. They did a good job with it and they were lucky all the things that went "wrong" didn't end up in real disasters.

There's a version of Jesus Christ, Super Star up on YouTube for 48 hours (well, 41 as of my typing this) on the site "The Shows Must Go On" or something like that. They release a new musical for 48 hours every Friday, and since this is Good Friday... This one was MUCH better than the one that was on TV in 2018 on whatever it was, FOX or NBC, I forget which network. ( ^^^ I had just mentioned it 3 posts ago). So, if you're into that sort of thing, it's on there. Edit: NBC it was. I re-watched the TV one for comparison as they re-aired it for Easter weekend, and it was pretty crappy when looked at side by side. Why they picked John Legend I have no clue. He didn't really "act." And, truth be told, he's not all that great as a singer. If I didn't know what they were singing based on the YouTube one, I wouldn't understand a friggin' word anyone was singing on the NBC one. The words weren't very clearly sung. I guess it seemed better the first time I watched it because I didn't have a production to compare it with. I'll stick by my assessment that the YouTube one was done much better (though the guy who played Judas could get a bit screechy, he still sang good). Edit: And they used very noticeable auto tune. I liked the one they had on the week before (on YouTube). It was Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. It was the 1999/2000 (?) movie(ish) version with Donny Osmond. He can belt out that "Close Every Door To Me" like no one's business. It's still up on other web channels - they took it down, or it's just in parts, on the "The Shows Must Go On" YT channel. I had seen that one back in the day when it first aired (I think on PBS). Wonder what they'll have next week? Hope it isn't CATS. It didn't translate well into a filmed version when they put it on PBS however many years ago it was, so I can't imagine what a crap fest the newer movie was that was just put out. (BTW: The time for the plays put out is 7 pm, but it's a time zone in England - don't know if it's GMT or what).

Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert The songs are as great as ever, and there were some solid vocals (though several give out on those raw, emotional high notes in the final act). What was spotty was the acting. Brandon Victor Dixon (Judas) and Sara Bareilles (Mary) were good and Ben Daniels delivered on Pilate's Song (though he wasn't as emotive during the trial). The rest... not so much. And the primary bungler was the big cheese himself, played by John Legend. John looked like a sleepy baby here, and his performance carried the same energy. Comparing the money lenders sequence with what I saw on stage with Neeley back in the day, and it's night and day. Not only was the scenery weak on the TV version, but watching Legend meekly waive a chair around and deliver his lines like a cranky, sleepy baby, was painful. There were no sparks in confrontations with Judas, no passion in the usually show stopping “Gethsemane”. He's one, okay maybe two steps above Tommy Wiseau. (Ha! I could just imagine Jesus saying, "I did not hit those moneylenders, I did not, it's bullpoopie, I did naat... Oh hai Judas.")
Looking at the title I see it described as a 'concert', and maybe that's the best way to come at it. A concert (complete with annoying whooping crowd) not as a musical play. And while (as a long-time fan) it was cool to see Alice Cooper, he's older and not as spry and not the show-stopper he used to be. Mostly this take on the classic rock opera was flat and uninspired.
