Ugh. One more episode to go. I didn't watch the Talking Saul with Chris Hardwick thing afterwards. I didn't want to spoil anything.
I'm actually not liking the way this is going. I know - it's not over yet and the last ep could be epic (in it's own way), but it's not looking on a BB scale here at the moment. I didn't like Kim's ultimate arc. It had gone down hill for me after the whole weird scheme she and Saul were doing with Howard. (Even before he got shot). And SHE was the one who came up with that whole thing. Still don't know what that whole thing was about. Why pick on Howard? Wish the writers had come up with something else to make them rethink their ways. And then her confession? Leave Saul out of it, since she thought of it (and he was kind of hesitant at first, though, he's an adult, and once he got on board, he really got on board). She should have said she thought the cartel got him or something just to not involve him so much. But, I know - he made his bed, too, and has to also lie in it.
I was liking Saul (not all his doings, of course), but then they just made me lose all that for him. I know, it's a show about bad people and they shouldn't be rewarded but, I was hoping there would be some kind of redeeming thing going on toward the end (still not over yet, but...).
A lot of shows today are just so damn depressing. It's all about anti-heroes and just plain villains and rotten people and there's no one to really root for or have some hope. I know there are SOME shows out there that still have a true hero, I still watch a few but I can't watch every show in existence to see it. Those shows seem kind of sparse in the landscape these days.
This show is just going to make me sad, I think, in the end.

Those shows seem kind of sparse in the landscape these days. This show is just going to make me sad, I think, in the end. The way I read Kim is that she is addicted to the scam. She gets a kick out of it. But doing the same old scam gets boring. So she had to have bigger and bigger scams to get the same thrill. She told herself a bs lie that it was all about saving the little people. It had nothing to do with the little people. It was all about being in control. Being the lawyer who beat the corrupt system. Being the scammer who was the smartest one in the room. What happened to Howard broke her. She wanted to confess but couldn't because that would drag Jimmy down with her. She was the driving force behind what happened to Howard. She was always the responsible one and felt totally responsible for what happened to Howard so she did what she's always done and ran. She ran to a nice easy job with nice people who'll emotionally support her and demand nothing from her. She is terrified of making a decision now. When Gene called and told her to confess, it gave her permission to do what she's wanted to do for years. BCS is a classic tragedy like people have been writing for 3000 years. It's nothing new. A great person whose great flaw brings them down in the end. It's a charter study. Like a lot of stories it started as the story of Saul and ended up as the story of Kim.

Hey, Marie and Chuck. (And Walt, one more time). Well, it's over now, darn it. Loved the show overall, not crazy about the end but it was nice to see that Saul Jimmy cared for Kim so much he got 96 years instead of 7 and a half or whatever it was. So, does Kim get off scott free? That whole Howard-does-drugs thing was her idea. I need to re-watch the last ep. They were talking about maybe Howard's widow doing a civil suit or something. Did Jimmy take all the heat for it? I was wondering when they were flying in the plane if Jimmy would pull a D.B. Cooper, heh, since he mentioned Cooper the first time he met Walt. Guess they wouldn't get THAT crazy. In my head canon, Jimmy escapes prison and meets up with Kim again somehow. I guess prison is where he deserves to be, I suppose. Oh, well.

Kim will probably be sued into poverty. But I don't think she really want's a high power job ever again anyway. It would tend to bring out the scammer in her. They still could criminally charge her but they don't have any evidence past her confession, the crimes happened years ago so collecting more evidence would be difficult and she said that Lalo did it but the Mexican government declared Lalo dead with the bodies dental records proving it beyond a reasonable doubt. They'd have to have the Mexican government reopen the case which might be difficult.
Jimmy turned 50 in the previous episode. With a 7 year sentence, he'd be 57 with no money and no career when he got out. He knew he'd probably turn into Gene again. To him, his life as Gene was worse than prison. He's a hero in prison. He can help people who really need it. There are innocent people there and he can be a jailhouse lawyer for them.
Kim loves him but she'd run from him if he was out of prison. The two of them are toxic for each other. They goad each other until they break bad. Kim didn't want to risk going down that path again. But I do think she'll keep in touch. Letters, phone calls and the rare visit. She's not rich so unless she moves to where he is it would be too expensive to visit him more often.

At least we haven't heard the last of Bob Odenkirk on AMC. He's doing a new show called Straight Man which starts airing next year, I think.

I don't know if they changed the title or if it's a different show altogether, but now the show Odenkirk is on on AMC is called "Lucky Hank." Premieres March 17th.
There's a bunch of short cartoons, limited series on AMC called "Slippin' Jimmy" about him when he was a kid. If one goes to On Demand for AMC you can see it there.
Edit: The show Lucky Hank is based on a novel called Straight Man, so that must've been the working title.
