my life has taken on some big changes as of late that i wanted to share - i am moving to alaska at the end of the month. i've lived in tennessee most of my life, but i recently got back together with a guy i dated 20 years ago and he works and lives up in alaska. we spent some time together while he was in the area visiting his parents and we've decided to give it another shot. i haven't been overly happy where i am and decided it is time for a big ass change in my life. i've got a job waiting on me - i sold my car and am putting the house up for sale. trying to find a home for smudgey, my cat. if anyone wants an ill tempered cat, please let me know. and crowfan, if you still want my job as you've said over the years, you better apply now, because my last day is the 25th.
it's scary, but a good kind of scary. i leave in 18 days. i cannot freaking wait.

thanks, guys. i'm psyched. i'm full of nervous energy, can't sleep, eat. i've been pacing a lot. then at some point, usually when i'm trying to pack, i fall over and sleep for 12 hours. out of the kajillion things i'm going to have to get used to, the 24/7 of daylight will be a challenge. it began in early may and lasts until sometime in august. i can see that getting to me, as i am enough of a vampire to prefer night. that, and apparently polar bears are a real threat. they occasionally get close enough into town when they're hungry enough. they say if you encounter one, to just calmly turn around and walk away. oh, yes. i'm sure i can do that. *runs off waving arms like olive oil while shrieking uncontrollably*

If you see a polar bear walk up to it and thump it on the nose to show it who's the boss. Hehe, that'll work.

i am enough of a vampire to prefer night. Well, there's one good thing to say about Alaskan winters. (Fellow Nightwalker here.) I tried to get to Alaska after my divorce but couldn't get transferred. Maybe retirement. Best of luck to you!

From what I gather about Alaska and Tennessee the redneck ratio might be about the same.

Rednecks are everywhere. Only the accents change.

Rednecks are everywhere. Only the accents change. So in Alaska do they insist on proper use of caps?

Well congrats! Sounds like an adventure.
As part of your Alaska training, you should watch old episodes of "Northern Exposure", so you'll fit right in. because TV life is just like real life.
