Good luck up there! It'll be quite a change, I'm sure. Show that cold temperature who's boss.

today is MY LAST DAY OF WORK!! i've been here 18 years....feels weird to be leaving. start my new job on the 6th. the great news is, my dear friend gypsygurl is going to take smudgey for me. the woman i spoke to last week who seemed interested in her, must have changed her mind, because i never heard back from her. i was really relieved, since i'd prefer smudge not to go to a stranger. gypsygurl has been my bff for 20 something years and know she will give her a good home. the only problem will be getting her there. i've been putting her food in a cat carrier since yesterday morning and she refuses to go in to eat it. she knows something is up. i have one shot to get her in that carrier, or else it will take an act of god to get her in there. i did a practice packing run yesterday evening, and she made herself comfortable in one of my suitcases. she tried to bite me every time i attempted to put something in. And here we have a perfect reason why cats should never be allowed to have opposable thumbs.

well, smudgey is packed up and headed to her new life with my best friend. and i got her in the cat carrier on the first try! i felt like such a sh*t, though. all week she has been timidly inspecting it and inching her way in to get her food a little more every time, and today, when she finally fully goes all the way in for the food i put in the very back - SLAM! i shut the door on her and trapped inside.
i packed up her toys, litter box and food and she's gone. gypsygurl is such a great friend to take her for me. i told her she had permission to hold this over my head for the rest of our lives.
she's going to a very good home, but it was hard to see her go. i'm going to miss kvetching about her!

so here i am at the first stop, the airport in knoxville, waiting for my flight to board. i've got a little over an hour to wait, so i got a table at ruby tuesday's and pay exorbitant prices for a cup of coffee so i could hang here.
whew. i spent two days in k'ville with my cousin and her husband - my parents flew in from florida to see me off, so i have been hanging out with them as much as possible. it was reeeeally hard to say goodbye to them all, especially my father. but i'm so excited too, i've got a million things going through my cracker brain.
already had my first luggage mishap. i had three pieces - and was lugging them down the steps at my cousin's when the biggest suitcase hit the landing hard and the zipper burst - opened and all my crap went flying. my cousin gave me one of her suitcases to use instead, so we got it taken care of quickly. if it had to happen, i'm glad it wasn't when someone was throwing it around while i was in the air somewhere. could've been much worse.
i'm so nervous! and the only one lugging a heavy coat around with me.
from here i go to atlanta, then seattle. then anchorage. then my new home. if there are no delays, i should get there tomorrow morning around 11 their time, but more like 3pm my time now. should be interesting.

No, that's what would happen if she had moved to Sunnydale, California.
